  1. Those dark wide plankingstrips gave me a hard time. Had to glue a few inches at a time so they would not kink.
  2. It has been awhile since I have worked on this, but I am almost done with the first layer of planking on one side.
  3. Thanks.I have been using it for sanding in tight places. I will try it out on my carving knifes.
  4. I bought some old modeling tools and this sanding stick came with it. I cant find out the name so I can buy some more. I have a lot of old tools that came with the stick stuff that isn't made any longer. If any body programs CNC machines I would love to send one of the old planking clamps so I can have some more and I need to make them a little bigger. They were built to last and not like these new wood planking clamps.
  5. Kostas. I have the rigging plans and a book with photo's that show's detailed build. I must be missing the small instruction book. I think I can build it know w/o instructions, but if I run into any problems I will contact you and I will also check out your build when I have time. Did this model come with any build plans like the rigging or just the picture book and small book? I will go through the rigging plans and see how many I have. I think it is 1 large sheet for rigging. Thanks
  6. haven't had much time to work on it. Working on shaping the stern and thinking of filling in gaps with filler so I can picture it better. What is a good filler? Easily sanded and ease of application. I am thinking of just using bondo since I have some and know how to use it.
  7. Clearly marked center bulkhead. I found it easier and faster to shape bulkheads with the center marked.
  8. Do you have any pics of the transom before it was planked? I am shaping my bulkheads and scared I might take too much off the last 2 bulkheads.
  9. Just laid the forecastle deck. I have to sand it, shape it, and add boarders around every deck. Almost time to start planking the hull. I still have to shape hull a lot more.
  10. I am almost finished shaping the bulkheads to accept the first layer of planks. In the photo below the main deck was suppose to stop where my thumb is. I had to break all the planks off and start over on the deck. I am beginning to think starting a model with no plans was a big mistake for my first build.
  11. I am surprised that there was only a few mistakes. My parts list was almost all confetti and the plans are missing. I am putting it together with only pictures. I cant wait to finish this and start on my HMS Victory. If anybody has plans for the San Juan Nep. please contact me it doesn't mater what size or brand.
  12. The photo below shows a small piece that broke off. I took a small finishing nail and pushed it into the piece, added glue than pushed it down into position. This might not be the best method, but it worked and did not take much time to do.
  13. The photo below shows the bulkhead after I cut down to the rough cut line. After reaching the rough cut line I used a smaller knife to carve down too the correct height than block sanded it to smooth it out.
  14. The second photo shows where a bulkhead was glued in the wrong place. I drew a rough cut line and carved out sections about 1/4" at a time with a large knife.
  15. This is my first build. I am not sure how to start a log, but here I go. I will go over some of the mistakes I made and how I fixed them. I tried using the Fair-A-Frame, but found that just using a square was simpler since the bulkheads touched the keel. In the first photo there is a bulkhead that was glued lower than it should be. I glued a strip on top of it and sanded it down to the correct level. I have a few photos and will add them shortly.
  16. Thanks. I was hoping I could find the plans. I don't know if these kits come with them, but the Corel Vic. shows every little detail. I can build it with the picture book. Just had hard s time figuring out which bulkhead went where and what height to build the decks too. I might try pulling measurements from the picture that might get me in the ball park.
  17. I have started San Juan Nepomuceno with no plans. I have just finished the 1st gun deck and was wondering if these decks are suppose to come with Kit? I glued a single layer of boards together, but the space seems small. If any body has any info please let me know. I am coming along pretty good, just worried about further on in project and running into measurement problems from my decks not being in the correct place. I have lots of pictures Just not anything where I can pull measurements.
