She is getting very close to the end. I did mess up in this final stage in some places though... now water needs to dry and I can seal the thing 😊

She’s finally arrived yesterday. I am over the moon with kit contents, but dislike plastic deadeyes so much... same with metal lifeboats. Looks like adding details could be much easier had they included wooden elements. If anyone could point me in direction of wooden counterparts, I’d be grateful. While I’m waiting for my glue to arrive, I’ll have a look once again through other build logs, I’m sure there was more elements to replace/upgrade. Regards Tom

Hello all. I’ve been looking at kits again after completing my little Hannah (well,nearly, I’m still waiting for resin to finish water and need to clean the bottle). I really like old ships, with sails and rigging etc. Since I’ve only built Hannah (and it took me nearly 5 years) it’s fair to say I’m very new to the hobby. I do have some experience with other models - wooden aircraft and plastic minis - so I thought I might as well jump into deeper waters when it comes to my first proper build. I have been reading various build logs here for last few days and couldn’t make my mind up as to which long boat I should choose. I really liked MS 18th century longboat, but struggled to find one available in UK - or maybe just wasn’t looking hard enough. Another contender was AL’s Jolly Boat and Bounty’s captain’s boat. Somehow I drifted towards bigger builds and I’ve noticed that even beginners were producing amazing models, so after careful consideration I’ve chosen my kit. Order was placed just now, my kit along with aliphatic glue should be here this week. The ship I chose - Occre HMS Terror. Story of this vessel is fascinating, size is interesting, look of it is amazing. I will be staring build on Sunday, I shall edit the title for a proper one when kit arrives. Looking forward to the challenge, but with resources on here I think it won’t be as difficult as I anticipate. Best regards Tom

Thank you for your input mate. It certainly makes the choice easier. I looked through various kits and couldn’t make my mind up. Now I just need to make shopping list and order the kit. Your log will be of great help I’m sure. Looking at your starting and the final photos, it was worth the effort as she looks amazing. /offropic: I never played Warhammer - I had one demo game in store, but didn’t really get to it. I still like painting though, last year I put my minis into GW painting competitions and even won first stage of Everchosen 😊.

Yes I have. There is a lot of items out of stock sadly, but if I was considering Golden Star, I think I could do one of the Russian boats too. Anyway, thank you for link and your time to post, I appreciate it.

Thank you. It was very stressful indeed. One of masts bent so much I thought it will break. I also got hull fogged up from CA glue, which annoyed me more than anything. I will be adding some epoxy glue to imitate water and to try and cover it. Other than that she is done. I also nicked some wooden box from my mrs to make stand for it. I’m hoping I’ll be able to post her last photo later on today.

Hello all. As my current project will be done today, I’m in the market for new one. I have picked 3 kits AL Bounty’s jolly boat AL Endeavour’ Longboat Mantua Gioden Star It will be my first plank on construction and first proper ship in general, however I am not a newcomer to modelling. I have chosen AL’s kits due to their simplicity (in comparison with other kits I looked at), but I’ve seen few bad examples of their kits and quite few unfinished logs. Golden Star, I know it will be more difficult, but I really like the ship itself. Also I’ve got a chance of buying it for the price of previous two kits. Whats the most important, all kits are available in UK and ready to ship. I’ve spent hours browsing online model shops to find a lot of stock out - if that wasn’t the case, I’d be making 18th century longboat... Thanks ‘rona! What would be your thoughts on that? Which kit would you choose? Regards Tom

Just having some more time with little Hannah. I finished all the lines and managed to make few mistakes on the way. I figured out it will work ok if I glue some threads to metal pieces to keep the sails positioned nicely. It was a shame that I couldn’t fold her afterwards so had to redo few bits. Also I broke the piece on the bow again and had to solder it back into its place. I hope it will hold. Now the most stressful step - attaching her to the stand in bottle. I just hope I won’t get a call to work 😂 Regards Tom

Good evening all. It has been a while since I last posted here. Only few days ago I dug our my old project with intentions to finish it - it was exactly as I left it in its plastic box. Of course it couldn’t be easy - I’ve lost instructions. I did look on the net, I wrote post here and messaged few members I suspected might be able to help me. And help they did, I had fantastic response. Thank you all gents, especially you @Gaffrig As it stands, I need to tie few more knots and ship will be ready to go into bottle. Hello all. It’s been a while since I last posted here, or since I touched my model. Nearly 5 years now. I thought it would be nice to finish my little shop, it’s all exactly as I left it with rigging mostly done and with only two sails still to be put on. The problem I’m facing - I’ve lost instruction booklet. Would anyone be so kind to point me in direction of pdf? Or even photos of said instructions? I would be very grateful, I’m so close to getting it done it would be a shame to never finish it. Regards Tom

Sorry for late reply gents. Igor for now I can say it is not going at all ... I didn't touch the box from last update, planned to get it done this weekend, but time with family and trip to seaside just consumed me. As to the sails, am not sure yet. Now, don't get me wrong, I'd like my ship to look real, with scale details etc, but must admit - I kinda like sails from the kit . Not that it really matters that much with my first build, but if I won't source another material and make them look better, will use what's provided. Hyposphagma thank you for very informative post. Great idea with the cannons. I broke one of mine, but glued it back - now if one looks closely, barrel looks a bit odd, but hey - at least I learnt that bending them too much will not work as intended . Infected with sibs... Well, I already have some plans downloaded and have small project in mind, but will see how it turns out. First I need to find smoked bottle, so I can insert my 'ghost ship' in . But before that, I still need to sort Hannah out. I am doing my research on adding sea into the bottle. From all methods I have seen, the one with epoxy glue seems to be the best. Will just need to test how it behaves when mixed with paint and how it looks when painted, then figure out how to work it around the ship. Then I will make stand for complete model - got some nice wood from one of my drawers (admiral still doesn't know I already took it, the front is still on the chest, let's just hope she won't find out before I cut it to pieces :D ). Here again I have seen few nice examples and can't decide on which will be relatively easy to make with hand tools only and will look good at the same time. I plan to add some rope with tied fancy knots, but need to build my stand first . One thing that doesn't let me sleep - how could I smoke the bottle myself? I think it could look nice with water and dark night sky. If I use the candle or matches on the outside, it will come off easily with first dusting, I may not be able to do it inside due to lack of oxygen. Any ideas? Will post update soon. Weather isn't too kind now, this should increase my chances of finishing her . All the best.

Hold on mate, we have something wrong here. As long as it was fun build/you've learnt something new/enjoyed it - don't be (almost) embarrassed! I have seen quite a few logs that were unfinished, modellers complained that kit is impossible to build thanks to brass parts, too big guns and few other bits. You've done it, that's all that matters. If you don't like this one, you just might be too hard on yourself. I know that well - I always complain that I could have done something much better, but we always learn . Your input to my log was very valuable and helped a lot too! I will have to catch up on my Hannah - not much left to do, but somehow can't get to it. Wanted to finish her by this weekend, but spend time at seaside and with family, so didn't even touch the box. Oh well, maybe next weekend .

Dan, thanks for clarification! By no means I was moaning etc, it just seemed a bit odd, but now is perfectly clear. I will hone my modelling skills a little bit and will get most probably Columbus' trio from you. They just look amazing. Regards Tom

Kits look nice indeed, but there is one thing that just doesn't add up. There is one small boat for 5 Euros. But to my surprise, postage is 30? Can't believe that sending envelope to UK with it would cost that much...

I hate when hobby forces new addictions.... but I don't think I have any choice .

Hi all. Just out of curiosity I tried to find any build logs for said kits, but my google comes up with nothing. Has any of you seen or built these kits? What are they in terms of quaity/instructions? All the best Tom
