  1. Thanks Ken. I was planning to use my air brush. I prefer acrylics as they are easier to cleanup. I will pick up some glaze tomorrow.
  2. So, to be sure I understand the use of automotive surface glaze, I first spray wood with primer (acrylic in my case), then apply glaze and sand to finish, and finally paint. Do I apply another coat of primer after I sand the glaze? I think you commented that primer may not be needed with wood.
  3. I continue to be impressed by all your quality work and the tips. Wish I had more time to spend on the ship. At this rate, I will be done by the 2020 elections. I have just finished exterior bulwark and transom planking , and am waiting for paint from Hobbylink. Local hobby shop is out of paint (again). I may add interior bulwark planking and red paint while I wait. I want to put the yellow on before I put the two thicker black planks in place. Then on to planking the hull....not my favorite task.
  4. Thanks, Ken. I love your hints. So practical and so easy to copy. These may be good for the gun carriages as well. Historically, square nuts were used, not the hex we use today. CA has it's place in building, not just for gluing. I use it to stiffen the end of rigging thread before I pass through a block (set). One more question. Automotive surface glaze - what do you use? A Google search gave me things such as McGuires polish, which, I'm sure, is not what you meant.
  5. Ken, these preparation and painting tips are the best I have ever seen. Thanks for taking the time to post. I will use as well.
  6. Check how it is done on the big ship. The size of the openings on the model reflect the current ship, not the smaller openings found on the original. There are several paintings of the Niagra, some done by artists who painted her around the time she was built, showing smaller gun ports, a higher railing, and gun port doors. As an aside, the current color scheme is not historically accurate either.
  7. Likewise, sorry to hear about the misfortune. But I agree, after a tall cool one (or whatever you prefer) and a good night's sleep you will view it as just another opportunity to excel. That's the beauty of these wood kits. A bit of patience and anything can be repaired or replaced. I already had to re-plank part of my Niagra when I found the timberheads were not positioned properly. Have you cut a line too short yet? Or attached to the wrong point? I have done those things, and it can be a a challenge to repair. Part of the challenge, but in the end it is worth it.
