  1. I didn’t follow the instructions by AL to open the scuppers in the Hull, using the provided template would have been a disaster , my deck is a fraction higher than what is supposed to be , my mistake I should have checked it and rechecked , so my plan of action was drilling with a small Dremel bit from the inside placing the template on the deck to avoid any chuck damage , and used a small flat file both in and outside to finish the job
  2. After building mainly RC models , my first Schooner with rigging etc , quite a challenge , I didn’t want to use nails on the planking and used clips , wood glue on the planking , unfortunately part of the top end Broke away so back to using CA Glue mainly , working on the rigging today . Last week an accident , I was sanding the bow whilst in clamped position , needless to say , the Keel gave away !! Glued it back together again , a bit of sanding and spray paint , I didn’t like the windlass that came with the kit and placed a spare Billing Boats windless I had some where and it is much better , I will keep it in Brass so much neater , also I have one anchor in stow position the starboard one just hanging .
  3. Did a bit of research and found out dipping your finger in CA Glue to stiffen the tip of the thread , then cut it at an angle as well as Beeswax and that worked quite well to get through tiny holes off the blocks , so far so good
  4. I didn’t use the AL instructions to drill the Scuppers and using the template , that would have been a disaster , in hindsight my deck is slightly higher than what it supposed to be , not much but still , so the best way to handle this I using a different approach , drilling from the inside and using the spacer to protect the deck of my Dremel Chuck scratching it , and completed the job with filing with a flat file from the outside , also my Keel Broke away from the clamp whilst sanding , anyway fixed it , thank goodness I didn’t drop the whole lot on the concrete floor in the garage
  5. Good Morning Penfold, your Bluenose looks amazing , well done , as you can see the deck on my BN is almost done , I am working on the masts and then the rigging , the holes for the blocks are pretty tiny , what do you suggest and the best way to get the ropes (thread) through them and should I use sewing thread instead , the jigs as suggested elsewhere is the way to go for the shrouts , I am not entirely the AL colouring scheme just a few personal touches and refrained from double planking the Hull take care Rob
  6. Bluenose slowly making progress, I used wood glue for the deck planking , however not so successful on the planking , just not strong enough as I didn’t want to nail down the planking so revert to AC Medium glue and using clips to secure them , worked out very well , the hull is sort of completed and a few final touches and eliminating the slight overspray , I didn’t want to straight black but used Tamaya Dark Blue and no double planking hence the Red bottom

A few mishaps ( as usual) I had the keel clamped whilst working on her , well that resulted in the keel breaking , rudder off (%Y$^^) reattached it but regrettably the Keel is not entirely straight , I know nobody else will know, the hardest part the wires to the bow , it is okay but my eyesight is struggling, I don’t intend to paint the windlass, looks so much better without ( one of the personal touches) , the deck is almost completed , the next project will be the whaleboat and touching up here and there , love to know any comments and suggestions

  7. To avoid any nailing as much as possible when planking I use this simple method of modified binder clips , on the photo’s it shows a dry test run and no gap showing between the Gun wale and the deck , I use Tamiya acrylic paint ( colour US Navy white ) after priming and sanding sealer , as soon as the paint is dry I will start the serious planking, also I have decided to not going ahead with the double planking on the lower Hull and will paint it a bottom red as close as possible to the real Bluenose .

btw I had a look at other clamping tools , they might do the job and what I read in other posting the metal screw types aren’t really great , expensive and I don’t want to damage the frames.

When I started planking the hull , the top part dislodged itself ( I used wood glue so far ) and was going to use on the planking as well , I don’t think nailing is pretty hard too ,very hard to nail them through the plywood , so resorted to CA Medium glue for rapid strength and the clips worked very good to , the attached photo’s show todays result , I sanded a bit but once completed I will use filler as well and a final rub down

  9. Just started building the Bluenose 2 scale 1:75  and will use the paint schedule as per the original , so far we are going well , any comments welcome , I have stained and varnished the deck in Maple colour , as you can see the stain I am using not dissimilar to the original , it is water based and very happy with the result

  10. Finally started my version of the Bluenose 2 , yes I found the CD didn’t know what was on it ( I have an IPad) so trotted off to our local Office Works to ascertain what was on it and yes there are the instruction files , have them printed and binded at a cost of A$ 60 !! Also thanks for the files you sent me
  11. Hi Penfold, I just bought the Artesania Bluenose kit , however no instructions ( still to receive) I like your double planking and intend to do the same , I noticed the mahogany strips included , are they to use for double planking the Hull , just curious
