  1. Thanx! Your pictures speak well of the kit. The blocks appear to be very well executed and the wood of good color.
  2. One of the reasons I was in the army is that I can't walk on water....LoL
  3. That would be generous of you. If you could identify the kit that would be helpful. Like all modelers I am aware of clumsy translation to English. One things I am aware of is the amount of flash on Britania pieces.
  4. I've looked at their site and data. I also looked at Model Expo because they carry the line. I'm not a novice but much can be said for second grade materials-wood and blocks and castings.
  5. I got some email ads for this company and their kits. Does anyone have experience with them? What is the wood quality? How are the instructions? I'm thinking of adding a kit to my collection for post Mary Rose which is my winter build. Here in Minnesota winter can be a LONG time.
  6. His name rhymes with the show jingle from Batman. Born in this house.
  7. I bought an inexpensive camera two weeks ago. I'll use that, recording from the start. If CatMan my cat is in the way, so be it.
  8. I am not even a novice when it comes to pictures but I will try. As of this writing I have the wood laid out for framing. The kit has been in the house a couple three or four weeks so I think its safe to release the parts from the sheets and try some dry fit. I am as far as following sheet #8 sub A in marking the parts. I will do this to all parts on both sides as I a geezer and at times forgetful. Once they are all marked I will release the parts and dry fit the keel, plank termination patterns and walnut keel parts to dry fit and glue. I plan to use as much wood glue as possible and cyanoacrylic only where necessary.
  9. Will be interested also-all bumps and warts and how you corrected them.
  10. Plenty of good information. As I set up I'm reading David Child's 'Mary Rose'. I watch/have watched all I can fond of You Tube. The archeology if it reveals the forecastle I'll watch. Should JoTiKa change the kit, I'll do another one. Its the idea of the ship which has meaning for me at this time. I'm learning how to photograph so I'll post when there is something to post-warts and all.
  11. Thanx. I parent a severely/profoundly(physically/mentally handicapped) adult son who 'helps' me. This makes some things tricky sometimes. He is easier to handle than CatMan my adult cat who loves to park near my build. Won't stop me. Will exercise care in planking. I'm a firm believer in dry fit. I've seen both pictures and video on planking but none on mistakes and how to correct them. I'm new to camera work of any kind-or cell phones for that matter but I will try to post my steps.
  12. Pretty! This is the type pictures I need to see the why and how of this kit. I'll be laying the keel this week. I'm old(er) at 71 so I don't work so fast any more. Any tips or tools you find especially useful? I have the Great Courses history of Medieval England playing as I work as backround.
  13. I am nowhere at that skill level. My goal is to complete this beautiful ship. I have the Anatomy of a Ship-Mary Rose and read parts as I gear up. First step for me is to study the plans in the kit.
  14. I'm in Burnsville. My interest in Mary Rose is that she was brought up like Vasa. Built in Henry VIII's reign at the dawn of English sea dominance.
  15. Has anyone here built or knows someone who has built JoTiKa's Mary Rose. I have the kit 'ageing' in the living room. I gave up on trying to build DeAgostini's Vasa-the parts didn't fit and queries to DeAgostini are unanswered. The short answer is the kit parts just don't fit together well.
  16. Thanx. I, too, noticed the kit price differential and scale differential-twice the price. DiAgostini has the advantage of the online YouTube build videos. The Artesanialatina at $999 is almost as the DiAgostini which is $1299. This may have to do with quality of material or where the company is located. Maybe I'll save up for the DeAgostini. In the meantime I'll stick to You Tube Vasa video and books I can read along with haunting this site.
  17. Thanx for the welcome. I appreciate it. Looking at the You Tube videos of the DiAgostini build I can see what you mean. I am retired(I do care for my handicapped adult son) so I have the time and some money enough to get the kit and tools I need. Wondering, setting aside the price and scale difference, DiAgostini vs Billings, which is the more accurate kit? Quality of the wood? The casting? Instructions/plans? For me its all about the journey of the build. I do have Vasa I by Cederlund and Hocker for reference.
  18. I checked the links and understand. Chinese knockoffs are pandemic. I know of them in their auto repair incarnation. I will stick with names I read here. Thanx for the information. I'd rather buy the kit with the highest quality wood and fittings. As the rigging is so key to the character of the vessel I want to be as certain as possible I'm doing it right. I checked micro-mark for measuring/cutting tools/angles/squares and so on. They seem to have the best selection I can find. I have many basic tools but fairing the hull requires more than I have at this time.
  19. The only instructions are online. No hard copy. How do you rate the quality of the kit materials? If this is the best kit available I am willing to wait to accumulate the money.
  20. I have begun considering building a classic vessel. Vasa is my choice for its history and beauty. My skills are intermediate, or indeterminate, as my kids say. Which kit, price is secondary to quality, offers results I can be proud of? Are there tools unique to such ship?
  21. Remembering the contribution you Aussies made to WWII. I will try to post as I can. Not certain how to post pics. I will however post my MISTAKES as they are the real education.
  22. I started the kit. It was costly. Caring for my handicapped child put a stop to the build. Now I am ready to proceed. If I said I was confident I would be lying. So, I look here and on You Tube for information.
  23. I'm soliciting pointers first before I start before I try a log. I'll have to ask my son about how to do pics for posting. I'm reading the manual currently.
  24. From Model Shipways. I hold the record, I think, for butchering this model kit in spite of the kit manufacturer/developer. Looking to read and SEE helps and tips from successful modelers. My runup is the New Bedford whaleboat.
