For my encore performance I am going to build the 2nd Italeri car kit of the 1936-1939 Mercedes Benz 540K in 1:24 scale. The Mercedes Benz 540 was built between 1936 and 1939. It had an 8 cylinder, 5.4 liter engine, vehicle weight was not less than 2300 kg (5070 lbs) , max speed was 170 km/h (105.6 mph) and fuel consumption was 28 to 30 liters per 100 km or 8.4 to 7.8 mpg (US). The box art show a paint scheme of cream with brown fenders but the kit sprues are yellow with black fenders; I will be changing that to something closer to the box art representation. Looked on the Internet forc pictures of this car in different paint schemes and there are not many to be found. Found more photos of the 1934 Rolls Royce Phantom I just completed than of this Mercedes. The obligatory box contents photos follow: And of course the instructions are again in the picture book form: Stay tuned !
I have been asked to restore this old Pond Yacht Ketch ( Thought it was a schooner at first!) . Its a solid hull with a full keel with a lead strip attached. A decent amount of work went into the original carving and laying out but not much sanding or finessing of the various parts. No blocks but there are cleats. Oddly there is no provision for controlling the rudder, it swivels freely with no tiller or even a post piercing the deck and there is no contraption for adjusting the sails, just three horses. Mostly damage to the model is cosmetic, its not even very dirty. There is a broken boom jaw on the fore and the main boom is snapped in half in the center. The oddest thing is the condition of the varnish. I would like to hear opinions on what you fine folks think is the issue.
Hello, I just received the ship, imaged attached, and need some help with identification. This was a ship my grandfather started restoring that was passed to my farther and now me. I do not believe they were able to make much progress at all and I would like to at least strip off the old paint, repair the rigging and sails, as well as missing pieces. My first question is any idea the make or model of this ship? Or how to determine what the sale sizing and quantity should be? From there is there any place to order the rigging and sails from? I am an engineer so am typically good with my hands and repairs, but I know nothing about modeling ships. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also this ship is big, like over 40" X 14" X 40" I can provide detailed dimensions once I am home. Thanks!
