  1. Well my San Francisco by Artesania Latina build is coming to an end, just working on the stand and display case now I decided to start planning for my next build. My first ship was the Golden Yacht bottle kit by Amati, I will say I enjoy the larger models more but about a year ago I came across this kit on eBay and purchased it. From what I can tell the kit itself was produced and sold in 1988 and stopped selling shortly after that. I have tried to research the kit and there is not much on out there on it. I was a bit skeptical purchasing something so old on eBay as the box was damaged in the picture, but from what I could tell it had never been opened. And when it arrived, it was clear that it wasn’t. All of the parts inside the box were still packed away and appeared to be in pristine condition. I have not started it yet, but I will soon.
  2. I'll call my official start date 6/14/2014 I found this kit on ebay, and wanted to build a Hannah without having to commit to a full POF scratch build. This will be a fun little build that will be for my youngest daughter Hannah. I want to try and improve the historical accuracy of this kit, but don't want to kill myself getting there, my main goal is a nice little intricate ship that represents the Hannah that my daughter will be proud to display in the future when she has her own home. The kit included a solid hull, plans, printed deck on thin wood, wood dowels, wood strips, several cut pieces, rigging materials, cast cannons and sails. The box claims 1:48 scale but by best calculatuions estimate her as 1:80 scale. The cannon casting in brass or bronze are suprisingly decent and am considering keeping them as-is as they have a nice aged patina finish. The upgrade will include planking over the solid hull, Planked deck, and complete full rigging following "Lennarth Petersson Rigging Fore and Aft craft" American schooner rigging info. The hull has now been initially faired, I had to align the stem slot a bit to starboard to be it properly centered, but the rest was within reasonable limits. I now need to do final checks between P & S for conformity and shape then mark the hull with lines for planking butts and calculate planking bands and widths for tapering. I remade the stem, keel and stern post from walnut so that it will match the walnut planking and give me the option of keeping the hull a natural finish. I will be planking with walnut strips for the hull and basswood for the decks. (Note: I have enough wood leftover from my AVS to complete these). Last nite I started carving out the rabbet and hope to have the garboard strakes installed this weekend. Ken EDIT: I will also be using the Sultana practicum as a guideline for this build
  3. I finally got through the headaches of getting the family car inspected. after front brakes, and complete exhaust {from the manifold back}, I was able to get the car over to the garage for the sticker. in the meantime, through all this, I haven't had much time for modeling. I did get to reorganize the parts inventory bin and move a few things around. at least I still have MSW to keep me sane. I was surprised last week, by a package that came to my door. recognizing the sender as one of our own, I brought the package into the house....the admiral was puzzled to the max. of course I had to assure her that I didn't place any orders without her knowing opening it up, I saw the remnants of the Robert E. Lee......he had bought it off E-bay some time ago. let's put it this way.......it needs work we had an e-mail conversation about it in the past......he though I could do something with it...he felt that he'd never have the time. also, was this kit that he had sent me a picture of during the same conversation. I have never heard of the company........I thought it to be some defunct company, but it's actually still in business https://authenticmodels.com/nautical/sailing-ships/ Lou thought that this model would compliment the Norden.....he had no interest in building it. so he sent it to me...he figured I'd have more fun with it than he would. you really shouldn't have Lou, but I thank you very much for thinking of me thanks as well for the R.E.L. .....I'll put that with the other two derelict hulls you sent me....one of these days, I'll try and make head's or tail's out of it {and them}. perhaps I'll do as we discussed.........I still like the idea of the ferry I have more on the model.....I've already started it.....but Gibbs needs to go out, and he's going to get a BATH this will be a hoot!.......it's the first of the season! I'll be back!
