  1. Hello friends, im searching for books about the HMS VICTORY (im working on the caldercraft model) so i will be more than happy to get some reviews from ship modelers also want to buy some books about the Battle of Trafalgar best regards , Michael.
  2. Hello here a little help for all of us with empty pockets and need for good contemporary information: https://ia802606.us.archive.org/22/items/shipbuildinginir00reed/shipbuildinginir00reed_bw.pdf
  3. Hello! I got a book called The Lore Of Ships as a late Christmas gift and it is very interesting and informative. It has plenty of drawings as well as text, and covers a lot of topics. I will probably add on to this review as I read the book, but I will show you a few things about it now. P.S. Sorry for the bad lighting. This next page would be great help for building a cross section. There is so much more in this book and I would greatly recommend this book to anybody wanting to know more about ships or needing a reference on how they are built. This book will be a great help when building. Until next time.
  4. I am not sure this is the right area of MSW or in fact whether the moderators permit this. If I have broken a rule or lodged this under the wrong category mea culpa. I am on the hunt for a book/paper/document written in 1938 by Captain Harold (Harry) Alexander Baldridge titled: Ship models, the collections of Rogers, Sergison and Pepys. I understand it is a slim document some 14 pages in length. I am hoping it contains a listing of the said collections. If anyone has come across this would welcome his/her review of it. If they are happy to part with it even better or know where a copy might be obtained. Thanks Alan
  5. Ahoy; Brief descriptions about 2 well researched books I am reading. First: The True Story of the Mutiny of the Bounty. By Caroline Alexander 2003, ISBN-978-0-14-200469-2 This book is extremely detailed and very well researched. All of the events are well described. Before the voyage. The voyage out to the South Pacific. The mutiny, The Pandora. The return of Bligh to Coupang (Dutch Colony) and the trail of the mutineers. The author takes all this information and creates a seamless narrative. Many of the sources are letters from the sailors to family and diaries that the men kept. In the back of the book it has all the sources for each chapter and select biographies. Best book I have read about the HMS Bounty. Second: The Slave Ship - A Human History. By Marcus Rideker (professor of History) 2007 ISBN-978-0-14-311425-3 Another book that is well researched. The book discusses in detail the life, death and terror of the slave trade. The evolution of it. The so called "Middle Passage" From Africa to either the West Indies or the USA. Insurrections, the lives of sailors, death and diseases on particular slave ships. This book is not just about what happens to the slaves but everything that has to do with it. The people involved and then several last chapters of the abolition of slavery. You read about accounts that are quoted from actual court proceedings. Again well researched with lots of sources quoted for each chapter in the book. Thank you for reading my brief review. Marc
  6. Hi. I have just purchased the book and it is a excellent resource for ship modeling covering all aspects of the ship. Most diagrams are very clear and precise and to scale. Loads of photos and construction methods are shown and discribed in great detail. I am very impressed with the book. Just one more to get then I am happy. Regards Antony. Looking for book -: The Arming & Fitting Of English Ships Of War 1600-1815 - Lavery - Conway.

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
