  1. HI Folks Does anyone out there know whether the Baltimore Clippers would have been copper bottomed. I can't find any reference to copper at all in 'Chapelle'. My assumption is that since copper clad hulls were available in 1807 - 1812 and that the ships were built for speed, a copper clad hull would make sense - but then, they were also supposed to be cheap. Any thoughts most welcome Wishing you all fair winds and a following sea. Don
  2. Hi all I'd like to show you these pics, taken two days after the 3rd, final application of a special shining ointment for metals. How you can see, some "dirty"-corrosive spot arised despite me intense care to apply the cream onto the whole surface of the tiles. My aim was to "seal" (after the cream application and polish) my shinning coppering with two layers of varnish for metals just to protect the copper against the odidation etc....but know I really dont know what to do... Any help/suggestion from anyone copper-specialist on this issue? How can I solve this problem with those two-speed
  3. first, did French frigates such as Hermione have copper plating? I am building her, and plan to leave the hull natural, using walnut veneer planking. Should I copper plate below the waterline or leave it natural? In your opinion, what would look the best?
  4. Anyone able to give advice for the best paint for painting the copper sheathing on my Airfix HMS Victory? It's already got a coat of Tamiya paint but I'm not too happy with the colour. Thanks
  5. Hi guys, I'm in the process of coppering my build of the HMS Fly with Amaticopper plates. Lookin OK to this point ( this is my first coppering). I am wonderinf what color the copper would turn after interacting with seawater (brown, green, black). I'm testing salt water, vineger, vinerger and salt in water. Any suggestions on what to use. Thanks in advance. Mark
