  1. Greetings. The next build for the PHTS Shipyard has arrived. Attached hereto are photo's of the kit and contents. We will need to hold off on laying the keel for at least a short while, as the Shipyard Overseer has issued a management directive that states we must launch at least one of our current builds (either the Harriet Lane or the Ranger/ Detector) prior to beginning this one. Looks like we need to put in some overtime!!! The box cover Instructions and contents Laser cut pieces Looks like one broke - believe it is a part of the windlass. Will check into what it is supposed to be and decide how to handle. My junior apprentice showing the size of the 4 sheets of plans. Looking forward to starting this one!
  2. Anybody know what the average time is that it takes Model Expo to fill a backorder? Their site says 15 to 30 days, but I'm past that and no package yet. This reminds me of order things with box tops when I was a kid and checking the mailbox every day to see if it came. While I'm enjoying the anticipation, I'm really itching to get started. Thanks. Rich
  3. Did Model Expo update their website recently does anybody know? This looks very different from what I am used to, admittedly it's been a year since I ordered anything.
  4. This build log is kind of a late start on the building. I currently have the hull in pretty good shape and about to plank the deck. I'll post a few pictures of the early stages, but it is well underway at this point. Chuck's practicum on it is what drew me to this kit. This is the farthest I've gotten on a sailing ship build to date and intend on actually completing it. I got the kit on sale, as Model Expo prices fluctuate wildly. I'm cheap, so if I find something I want, I'll follow the prices and purchase at what I think is a fair price. It seems like a good kit to work on building skills. Hopefully, others can avoid the mistakes I've made along the way. In the beginning ...

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
