  1. Buildweek 1 - entry 1 Hi there, I just received the kit Havmågen by Billing. Since this I really the Norden, with some colours and additional decals, I chose to place it under Norden. As I am from the Norwegian west coast, these boats are a common sight for me and I look forward to getting to know the hull shape better. In the kit a colour for painting the hull above the waterline is included, however this is not common here. So I'm wondering if I'll be able to plank it so well as not to paint it on my first build, or if I should just focus on gaining experience with this build. Any thoughts on this? I will try to follow the building instructions closely an not make any changes other than absolutely required ones. Possibly with the exception of the painting scheme. Next post will be unboxing and checking that all the parts are there and in good condition. Best regards, Halvor
  2. After getting some great information on my first thread I ordered the Norden and some tools, and today it arrived. Everything was present in the box so I got started I think it's a good first kit and will help me get to grips with the main aspects of building model ships, and there's not too much rigging or sail work, which is the most daunting part for me! Plus I love working boats. Although I think I'll be going for a Model Shipways kit for my next build whenever that may be, the Billings instructions are rather vague. So far I've relied more on two good build logs. So far (the first 2 hours or so) I have added the bulkheads to the first half of the hull and glued the two wood pieces at the bow and stern, I am just waiting for that glue to dry before adding the deck and starting the other half of the hull. I'm already enjoying this new hobby! If anyone has any other tips or notices anything I have done wrong or should do differently, let me know
  3. Now Trying to remember: After many holidays in Denmark - It was my wish to build one of these little nice fishing boats which one can see in all harbours of the West coast of Denmark Cheers Steffen I hope my work looks like this afterwards :
  4. (I will try to recreate my Norden build log) This is my first build. When I opened the box everything from the list was inside. The instructions are very basic for a beginners set. On some boards, the laser didn't go all way through and some were bit warped which made me think of problems joining the two halves, later on.
