  1. Hi all this will be used as a log for my build of the Amati HMS Fly. I have never built a wooden ship and have only built plastic ships for about a year so most of this is very new to me, including the terms—which I will hopefully learn along the way. I will likely move very slowly because I’m nervous to make a mistake, but please offer any and all advice you have. I’ll gladly accept it all. Forgive me in advance for my dumb questions I’m sure I’ll ask. I haven’t don’t much yet, but I started to dry fit the keel and bulkheads. I will hopefully start the beveling process
  2. I found this canoe at a second hand store a while back. Even before I thought of building ship models. I had it on my shelf all this time and decided that I could do something with it. Definitely inspired by @Osmosis and his beautiful Peterboro, recently completed. I always thought that this canoe is out of scale; 20.25” long and a beam of about 3.25”. I has no tumblehome, no keel, no thwarts and a large rocker. But I think I can do something with it. I initially thought I would somehow cut it down to 16” to make it more proportional to a typical canoe but decided against that. I've
  3. I have attached two pictures; on showing where I am at now and the problem I have. The second picture shows what I am thinking about doing. Basically my problem is bending the .5mm strips so much and not breaking them. Any suggestions, ideas or comments are welcome.
  4. Hi folks! Well, I've read and thought I understood all the tutorials but am still struggling to fit the garboard plank. So far I've tried a template and the masking tape method but things still don't look right. The first photo shows the curve produced by overlaying tape on the strake - still gappy. When I reverse the plank it seems much better. (Photo 2). I put another piece of plank alongside to get another impression. Should I therefore spile the second plank to obtain the parallel line with the keel bottom and the flat reference along the hull? Confused.com!🥴
  5. Electric Plank Bender Hobbyzone Catalogue # HX-GDL1 Available from Hobbyzone for £20.63 (as of 10-7-18) There are numerous ways of bending those awkward planks that we regularly see at stern and bow, including soaking in water/macerating fluid that breaks down fibres, and then twisting. You can of course use a plank nipper, such as that from Amati, drum roller such as the Mantua release, or you can use an electric plank bender. The latter isn’t exactly a new way of shaping your planks to the required curve, but this new release from Hobbyzone is certainly a quali
  6. Hello there i have make new plank clamps maybe it will be useful for someone here is a link to my build log you can see the plank clams and also the guide process for how to make them
  7. I bought a Kit. Caldercraft HMS Snake. This is my first ever Kit. Why are the planks in a kit installed full length? A wooden ship 106 feet long would be planked with numerous planks placed end on end to reach the 106 foot length. Even the local fishing boats being built in my area are planked with much shorter planks. 106 foot vessel would require at least 10-12 planks placed end to end. It would be impossible to lay a single plank 106 feet long. 1. Per Kit directions, why are the kit planks laid full length? 2. Should I cut a full length plank into sections? 3 If I
