OC. Manageable lengths is a process done by many good modelers. One long length is very problematic as it often does not fit the contours of the deck. Thanks mate, suppose I was hoping to cut at every stantion, into average size pieces say 2-3inches, but I dont think that will happen as I would have to loose some railing without stantions and there wouldn't be enough length then. Glue the first two/three stanchions, then after an inch or two spot glue the next, and so on. If the railing is bent/wobbly, spot glue at shorter distances. When you've finished the entire railing, you glue the remainder of the stanchions. Old Collingwood Posted September 25, 2018 Author Share #996 Posted September 25, 2018 Hi all, I started fitting the deck rails starting with the rear deck, after checking the location of the obstructions like the rear tubs, and also the rear accsess hull ladder, it gave me the the opportunity to cut the railing into three pieces, this worked quite well I just sat them in a small smear of thick gorila pva. Heres the dreaded pictures. OC. Excess glue can easily be brushed away with a damp (with water) paint brush, then wick away the water/glue with a dry brush. Makes the join invisible. And it's strong, too. Yes mate thats the stuff - I am frankly amazed how much better it is over standard (cheap) pva glue, I found out how tuff it is when I left abit of wood stuck in some glue residue ontop of a lid, the wood stick was almost welded in to the set glue. Old Collingwood Posted September 27, 2018 Author Share #1005 Posted September 27, 2018 Good evening all, I managed some more time on the bench this evening - I put the deck railings on the rear deck (other side), then turned my attention to the forward booms and frames, I decided to use the kit ones (well I had no choice as I lost one of the pe frames) anyway I think they look ok for kit parts, I also created two pe brackets/cradles for the boom ends to sit in. Just the two pics tonight. OC. Old Collingwood Posted October 1, 2018 Author Share #1014 Posted October 1, 2018 Hi all, more work again today she is getting closer and closer to completion, anyway I cut the mid section of railing into two sections, the first one fitted in a nice short straight line between the 4inch gun mount shroud and the platform, the next section continued on from the platform and forward, this section needed bending in two opposing directions, then glueing into place. I did this for both sides then turned my attention to the rear access hull ladder, this has a platform at both ends and after assembling I fitted in the stowed position. Old Collingwood Posted October 2, 2018 Author Share #1015 Posted October 2, 2018 Evening all, its getting closer to being finished - today I fitted the rear hull ladder to the other side, and built and fitted the two night lifeboys, I also constructed the front flagstaff and stand. Oh I also fixed down the superstructures. Just needs a bit ot touch up and the four sections of railing alsong the front - then its finished minus the Oerlikon guns.
