jonny.amy Posted June 21, 2015 Author Share #96 Posted June 21, 2015 (edited) Yeah the table is looking ok, there are a few ridges in the French Polish where I didn't get the polish moved about fast enough with the rubber, but a bit of light sanding will fix that! I'll probably do one more coat of polish mid week and that will be it! The table has taken about 10 to 12 hours at this moment in time, with a possible 2 to 4 hours until I can leave it alone!As for Sherbourne, the Admiral has banned all work for the week because the shipyard makes too much mess! jonny.amy Posted July 1, 2015 Author Share #99 Posted July 1, 2015 Hi All, Monday night was non-eventful in the Shipyard due to the excellent decision made by the Admiral to start looking for a new Shipyard Supervisor (fingers crossed a little black Labrador or Labradoodle)! After our holiday next week, we will start for a puppy properly, but I couldn't resist trawling through every website possible to find the best puppy! So watch this space, as I may be running a Puppy Name Competition very soon! Last night however, I did manage to get some work done on Sherbourne! I managed to build up the Top mast, shape the Main mast to the required dimensions and build up the Elm Tree pumps with the modified, less elegant handles. I will paint the Elm Tree Pumps Red Ochre later on tonight. Hopefully by Saturday I will have every cannon rigged as well. Then it's all down to the fitting all the tiny eyelets fro the rigging. I will post photo's later on! jonny.amy Posted July 11, 2015 Author Share #107 Posted July 11, 2015 Hi Everyone, We have just got back from the magical island of Jersey, where we had a great time, sailing, eating fresh seafood (mostly lobster, crab, and oysters), and most importantly catching up with family. If you have never been there before it is well worth the visit as it is absolutely gorgeous, and the weather is sublime! I have spent most of the day, sorting out the house, food shopping, and unpacking. But the real fun will start again with Sherbourne tomorrow, and I will focus the next 5 to 6 weeks on fixing the guns down and the hopefully getting most of the standing and running rigging completed before our puppy comes!! As for puppy names - Lily, Poppy, Eva-May, and Olive are on the shortlist!!! We will have to wait and see which name suits her best! All the cannons have been installed, and I have cut and shaped the gaffboom and the spanker boom. The next step will be painting these and fabricating sails. I have plenty of other bits to get on with, like adding the channels and belying pin rails, but I want to build and furl the sails prior to installing the gaff and spanker to make it easier for final fit out. I still haven't decided on how I will mount Sherbourne on the display stand, but I need to think about that a bit more! If you guys have any ideas, feel free to let me know! But fingers crossed with the right level of training, and enough walkies, she will be quiet and eventually let me get on with a bit of Ship building! The Admiral distracted me with YouTube videos of 4 week old Cocker Spaniels, and by the time we had finished it was too late to take the photo's. I will hopefully grab some tonight, if not, definitely tomorrow as the Admiral is going out for a girly Cross Stitch night with the mother in law, so I should be able to get a great deal done on Thursday! And yes they're great fun! I remember when my mums dog had puppies, it was quite possibly the best 8 weeks of my life! Imagine 10 Labrador puppies swarming around you as step in to their pen! It was utter madness! And the really excitable ones would be so happy that you were there, they would start snaking their bodies around because their tails couldn't wag fast enough! jonny.amy Posted July 20, 2015 Author Share #120 Posted July 20, 2015 Hello Chaps, I hope you all had a great weekend? I decided on a theme for my Sherbourne display case. I liked my display idea for Convulsion, with the ship beached and the crew members scurrying around doing various jobs, so I made the decision to a similar thing with Sherbourne. But this time I will be doing something a little different to Convulsion. I have made a Stone Harbour Wall from foam board, and started painting the block work on to the board. I got the idea from a display of HMS Cruiser I saw at Jersey Maritime Museum whilst I was out there a few weeks back.The description of the model was highlighting that it was a scratch build at scale 1:64, but it looked a lot like the Cruiser Model produced by Jokita/Caldercraft.... Any way, the display shows Cruiser against the Hard, undertaking minor repairs and taking on fresh provisions.I will do a similar thing with Sherbourne, but might show carpenters making a new spar, and the kit supplied cannon barrels will more than likely be stacked on the Hard with a few barrels and crates.
