Looking great, Nils.  I have been catching up a bit.  Dust is a problem, especially on those close up photos we love to take.

Thanks Ed for your word,

and also all the "likes" for clicking the button....

Update....

the first promenade deck cabin section is so far complete....

the handrails worked out fine, was easier than I thought it to be......, and this time the railholders had flattened ends before bending the holding loop for the rail was bent, (thanks to suggestion of member "Reklein", Bill in Idaho )

Bob,

thanks so much for your nice compliment. I`m glad you like it....

I have now the cabin walls 18,5 mm high ( 18,5 x 144 = 2664 mm actual) , and just hope that later on it will not look as if too low, because the boatsdeck with it`s slight downward curvature to the ships sides will leave quite a lot of the promenade deck "in the shade"

Hi Nils have enjoyed following this build. Love the subject and watching your skills bringing it to life - Models like this remind me of times as a boy looking into the windows of the Shipping Offices like P&O and others that used to be in the City with Models on display now sadly long gone - Cheers Pete

thank you very much Pete,

its nice that memories are brought to mind now and then. I grew up in capetown in the late 50 ties, and also remember taking the bus about 12 miles into the city just for looking into a large model shop there and what they had on display

G'day Nils, I've just been catching up with your build, and now I am trying to pick my jaw up off the floor, absolutely incredible workmanship, and also all the thought processes that go into it, on top of that is all the fantastic photo's, many hours of joyus work for you and very pleasurable viewing for us, thank you for sharing,

  best regards John.

PS this type of ship brings back many memories of when I was in the Merchant Navy back in the 1960,s.

Good morning John,

I was this morning surprized by the number of visits to my log over night, and with pleasure noticed that you have had a good look into it. Thanks for your interest, much appreciated,  you`re always welcome, and I`m pleased you enjoyed the tour. I`m trying to resemble a bit of the heritage touch of the turn of the century 1900 this ship brings with it, being a trend setting benchmark in mechanical shipbuilding in the year of launch 1897

Best regards

Nils

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your compliment...

the portholes (I use "Aderendhülsen", as galvanic tin-coated copper sleeves), I purchase these super priceworthy from the following webshop

https://www.reichelt.de/index.html?&ACTION=446&LA=0

(type    the term Aderendhuelsen into the spacefield for the search)

you can get them in different sizes. The "glassing" is made from bits of grass cutter transparent Nylon line for Lawn mowing....

Hi Nils

Lovely work as usual!  Watching your ship grow with each update is like 'food for the soul' - i.e. nice and satisfying to watch.  More please!!!!

Also, with respect to the third photo,  I can easily imagine a man and woman, in period costumes, strolling along the deck, sheltered from the rain by the deck above, whilst being bathed by spray from the ship's progress through the waves.  Talk about atmospheric!

Cheers

Patrick

Patrick,

thanks for your lovely compliment and also your atmospheric impression. I am gathering some figurines (male / female) in periods clothing, now and then there is something to find at Ebay (scale 1:160)

Update...

before carrying on with the boat deck supports, here an an intermediate rough crosscheck about davits in relation and position of outer boat deck edge-rail. I made a dummy for the boats arrangement. The overstanding stanchions (hight) will be clipped off after they are soldered to the rail. The 24 boats will be clinker planked and 60 mm long. Will think about resin cast technique here. The boatsdeck will be 1 mm thick ply and planked deck, just like promenade deck...

It looks OK so far   ....., but still a long way to get there

Nils

Hi Nils

...30 lifeboats? 30 did I hear you say???

Yep. I think anything that'll cut down the workload to build those things is gonna make Nils a well rested fella!

Resin casting? Sounds like a great idea, Nils.

Cheers

Hi Patrick,

sorry, my mistake, you`re right, it should read 24 boats, whereby 6 of them are fold-out boats, tripple stapled, port and starboard the last in the long row
