HMS Victory by dedicatedmodeller99 - PLASTIC - Airfix 1:180

Recommended Posts

First ever sail ship. I usually stick to aircraft. I have built the Airfix Severn Class Lifeboat and the Airfix 1:350 HMS Illustrious and the Revell titanic 100th anniversary kit. But this is a first for me. I have started sail ships with the Airfix 1:400 Mary Rose which is still a WIP. Down to the topic, I have never built a sail ship before therefore any advice will be very much appreciated. I am not bothered that much about building it, I think the worse bit will be the rigging. And I've had this kit since Christmas and the rigging has been the only put off for me, so how shall I tackle the rigging? I will post progress pics here and on my facebook page.

if you wanted to move all in you can buy deadeyes down to 2-3mm in diameter as the Airfix method for the shrouds has never appealed to me! I rig mine starting with the mizzen shrouds then work forwards and upwards.

Welcome, dedicatedmodeller99, and good luck with your new project.  The members here at MSW have a wealth of experience that I'm sure they will share with you to make the building of a sailing ship seem less daunting.  Before continuing with your build log, please be sure to take a moment and read through the pinned topics in this sub-forum and in the Questions/Instructions sub-forum.  There you will find what you need to know about proper formatting and the use of the various features and tools available for you to use when posting.

Cheers!

Chris

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
