WASHINGTON GALLEY by yamsterman - 1/48 SCALE P.0.F

Recommended Posts

hi carl

its about time i managed to get back to building.....suffering from withdrawl symptoms.

i will still have to suffer this stupid shift system till the end of the year probably....so not a lot of time to spend butchering wood.

i have checked out your latest endeavours with your musashi build........origami with microscopic pieces of brass!!!!

and i thought 1/48 scale period ships were fiddly.

respect mon brave!!!!

cheers....mick

hi kurt

modelmakings been severely hampered by  a new shift pattern at work......more appearances required, less time off , slightly shorter shifts.

result is less time in the shop....very annoying.

however i will have to content myself with shorter stints at the workbench once all of lifes other responsibilities have been met.

thanks for the kind words...i hope to have another installment ready soon!

cheers....mick

Its on my possible future builds list, but right now I am dealing with another American icon ship. Yours looks great, Mike.

Mick, as long as you have fun is what matters most, but that is something you already know.

You have got one of those workshop gobblers too!!! I would expect the gobbler to grow, but he, or she is still invisible size wise ;) It's an expensive piece of workshop equipment!!

Cheers

Looking good Mick. I like that Nippon clamp, not as nice as yours but still ... shift pattern will do, mate, as long as there is a pattern ;)

Cheers laddy ...

Mick, great build and yes don't you just hate when work interferes with shop time. I love the brass work on the stove and it usually only takes one burnt finger to learn about hot parts; that is of course unless your learning curve is a circle.

Keep up the great work! Ken

PHOTOS BELOW.

MODERATORS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO MOVE THIS IF ITS NOT IN THE RIGHT PLACE.

HOPEFULLY THE CONSTRUCTION SHOULD BE OBVIOUS FROM THE PHOTOS.

THE SPACERS HAVE BEEN MADE FROM BUFFALO HORN......DIDNT HAVE ANY HARDWOOD DOWEL TO HAND.

I ALSO CHANGED THE NUTS FROM THOSE IN THE SECOND PHOTO.

ANY QUESTIONS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK.

HI ALL

THE RESULTS OF TODAYS ENDEAVOURS ARE ENCLOSED.

I FOLLOWED EDT'S DRAWING BUT CHANGED THE THREAD SIZE TO 3MM.

THE NUTS ARE EPOXIED ONTO THE THREADED RODS.

FAIRLY SIMPLE TO MAKE...BUT THE DRILLING HAS TO BE SPOT ON!!!

THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN SIX SMALL CLAMPS AND TWO LARGER ONES...BUT I HAD A SENIOR MOMENT AND SANDED THE WRONG END!!!!

OH WELL CAN ALWAYS MAKE SOME MORE.

PHOTOS AS USUAL AND THE LAST ONE PROVES THAT THEY DO WORK........

I MAY HAVE A GO AT THE MORE COMPLICATED VERSION WHILST IM IN TOOL BUILDING MODE......LEFT HANDED TAPS AND DIES ARE FAIRLY EASY TO GET HOLD OF.....ABOUT  £22  FOR A DIE AND 2ND TAP........I CAN HIGHLY RECOMMEND DRILL SERVICE OF HORLEY........SHOULD PROVE A CHALLENGE CROSS DRILLING THOSE BRASS PIVOTS FOR THE THREADS!!!!

CHEERS FOR NOW......MICK

THE ENGLISH 56 FT SLOOP 1776 IS ON ITS TEMPORARY HOME JUST TO THE LEFT.....I NEED TO MAKE AN OAK TABLE FOR ITS PERMANENT HOME....ANOTHER JOB TO DO!!

I WILL POST SOME MORE UPDATES IN THE COMING WEEKS.

Nice to see some progress Mick. I'm really enjoying your build and will refer to it often when I start mine. I love the tools you made as well. Very nice work.

We remain our own worst critics.

If I had your talent I could throw mine in my scrap wood pile  :D
