We build.... We tear out.... And we re-build. That's what we do! :)

Yup, that pretty much sums it up. Therefore, I have a scrap box filled with boxwood pieces that didn't make it on the model.

G'day Bill

Looking good mate and I'm sure this time it will be what you want.

I'm trying to change the word "re-do" to "enhancement". Its sounds a lot better saying "I have to do an enhancement of #####", instead of "I have to re-do the #####".

What do you think?

You could be right but no matter how you look at it, the beak needed to be changed.

The construction of the beak is progressing. Provision has been made for the gammoning that will secure the bowsprit.

Beautiful work on the beak, Bill.  It has a light, airy look to it.

Sometimes the ability to zoom a photo spoils the effect of the subject, specifically when these are miniature carvings. Just like a fine painting, they were not met to be viewed at super close range but rather from a distance as the artist has created this image for that purpose. Some of my carvings look fine from a distance of say 2-3 feet, but close up they change.

Bill

The better the builder, the more clean, neat the result. This seems to be a rule and you Sir are top.

The next photo shows the beak in a more completed fashion. Next begins the work where the beak encounters the hull of the ship.

Looking good Bill B) The penny has now dropped exactly the direction you are taking with this area ;) Are you planning on leaving the 'slats' as is or are you going to add pieces to form an actual grating?

Kind Regards

Nigel

P.S. on a different note,Yourself and others may find this interesting,a model of the her later namesake, the 'Royal Sovereign' http://forum.modelsworld.ru/topic9188.html

Thanks Nigel. I am leaning towards leaving the grating as it is now. It does somewhat look similar to the construction of the beakhead on the Vasa of 1628. As there are no clear contemporary representations of this area available to me, I am thinking this will be acceptable.

The small deck extension is planked and the next photo shows it loosely fitted to the model with a dowel in place to represent the bowsprit. The straight piece across this deck is the trim to finish off the deck agains the hull. The ends will be bent to conform to the shape.

The plywood form is now planked. It will be mostly covered in sculptures when mounted in place on the beak head. It is shown lying loosely on the ship.

Now to duplicate it for the port side.......

Now the work begins on decorating the beak bulkhead. An entrance way with a set of doors is shown sitting loosely on the model.
