Not much happening in the shipyard this week. The post-op recovery has been up and down, and I've just had to extend my sick leave for another week. No actual modelling during this time, but to save my sanity I have been dabbling with learning CAD, contributing to the Modelling Plans project over at MSB. It's been fun, but I still get tired very quickly, so can't do it for too long (or the Admiral comes to chase me away from the computer!)

 

Have spent a lot of time just reading MSW on the iPad, and catching up with a few quite outstanding logs I'd not seen before. Great fun, but just makes me yearn all the more to get back to my own build. Maybe next weekend .................

And now I’ve had a chance to view your build log!  First off, I hope your recovery is going well and you feel better soon.

 

I can’t get over the scope of work involved with Victory as compared to a small, flush-deck brig or ship!  Your writings on the ratlines alone capture the challenge, but then you think -- what about all those gun ports?  And then, all those gun port lids!  And then on, and on, and on …

 

I’m glad you’re back to her, as she’s really looking beautiful!  You give hope to those of us who have a habit of taking long breaks away from the shipyard!  I’m looking forward to following along with you the rest of the way.

And yes.. single malt is one of those great simple pleasures in life.. although I've never heard of pouring it over ice cream....

Beautiful detail-work on those spars, they're a real treat I apologize for the late message as I've learned about your recent surgeries just now, I am pleased to know that you're on the mend, my friend, I can completely empathize with you on the tonsillectomy as I also underwent the same procedure a couple of years ago. Look on the bright side, at least you get to eat ice cream to your heart's content, oh and by the way, my ENT friend agrees that intake of alcohol serves as a great disinfectant for throat wounds.... you know what I mean   

 

Take your time with the Vic my friend, we'll be patiently waiting for your return to the shipyard

Nice to hear from you my friend and thanks for your good wishes. Along with the tonsillectomy was a UPPP, which I think is what is still giving me some grief. Despite the temptation I've stayed off the alcohol since the op - don't want to mix it with pain meds! However, the meds finish today, so that single malt is starting to look good.......

It's great to hear you're getting better.  As Aldo says, alcohol is a great disinfectant.

Hi Grant, sorry to hear about your problems with the surgery, hope your recovery is speedy from here on. I have a little info on the subject of sleep apnea which may interest you. I was having similar problems some years ago, often waking at night and not able to breath for several seconds. I went to the doctor and was referred to a specialist who recommended a CPAP machine. I mentioned this to our daughter, she is an Osteopath, and she told me Osteopathy can treat the disorder. I had several treatments of Cranial Osteopathy, a non invasive technique, the result is I haven't had any further episodes and that was about ten years ago. I know it's a bit late for you and maybe my case wasn't as severe as yours but if there is any mention of a CPAP machine this info may offer an alternative.

Just checking in to see how your feeling.

On the Alcohol and meds issue the only one I can say is a DON'T is tylenol and alcohol (ethanol). Not sure if it goes by the same name down under but its   acetaminophen or paracetamol by its chemical name. It and ethanol are toxic to the liver and many opiates are laced with acetaminophen. I could put up some more pictures but then it'd look like WebMD. Glad to hear your well enough to be getting off the pain meds.   by  by

Thanks Keith - the Admiral keeps a pretty close eye on what chemicals are getting mixed here. Despite my desire to imbibe, I will actually stay off it until all meds are finished.

Andy - that's ANOTHER of life's great simple pleasures, try it one day . I was actually referring to the malt you sprinkle on ice cream (or don't you do that in the States?) - also yummy, especially on chocolate ice cream.

Danny, we have malt in the States... powered form for milkshakes and ice cream and chocolate malt balls which are candy.. yep.... yummy.
