HMS Fife by Kevin - Fleetscale - 1/72 - SOLD

Recommended Posts

Good evening everyone

spent quite a bit of time today on the hanger internal details, even though artistic licence applies i am happy with it, especially as when the helo is parked in front of it very little will be seen

before being primed i put a cage under the landing

IMG_1439.thumb.JPG.8aea18d0189bca7cf3e9677fe672110b.JPG

primed with Halfords rattle can grey

IMG_1440.thumb.JPG.cf309a957511fdc844723165b1348564.JPG

then in Citadel white which is quite a flat white

IMG_1442.thumb.JPG.72f0082f63d5cb6c0e958b31ca27b35d.JPG

using part of the spruce from the Bismark build, i formed a few water pipes

IMG_1443.thumb.JPG.805b3953e13834fbb0c85a72df1029ec.JPG

which then were primed in red and added IMG_1444.thumb.JPG.58c66a3f85d467de2cd420a95a5ed950.JPG

then made a set of hand rails for the landing

IMG_1447.thumb.JPG.14c52726b875ccbfb69a463c1aec2c6a.JPG

and placed into its home for the night

Its all part of Kev's journey, bit like going to the dark side, but with the lights on

well the hanger has a helo in it now, lol not that anyone in a maritime site would care, but i had to, my hands were tied, it has a fairly cheap basic OOB build, and I even left some bits off, the rotors blades were a pain as they were not design to fold like that

here is what i am trying to copy (not my photo)59c2e4ef3bf55_Glamorgan1971(2).thumb.jpg.bb055a3d4e85e3b915e8c24c1097685f.jpg

Really nice work Kevin, everything looks rather realistic already. With everything painted one may not realize it's a model when pictured close-up.

Cheers,

Good morning Piet

thank you for your kind words, but yesterday i realised that i need to rethink the hanger, because of the prtice i am using 1mm and not 2mm plastic card, but because of it being quite flexible i have been strengthening it up with off cuts out of sight, which then causes it own issues, when you want to work in that area,

So i have revamped the hanger totally

the hanger sides have been removed and replaced with 2*1mm and I did away with the inset

by doing it this way it has become a lot more accurate and I have gained about 4mm in storage space for the helo, Phots later, i have to live and learn,

replaced some rotton posts along our property, put most of the garden to bed for the winter sos on and so on

Looking really good kevin, the detail in the hanger is First Rate, I know sometimes getting the scale right between a kit model (that is often out by a few mm - cm's) and trying to work around it can be a trial.

Its sure is coming along really nicely.

Glad you doggy is recovering also.

good morning everyone

well the helo could have turned out better, but for now it will do, I have plans to change it towards the end of the build, the tail will have to be repainted as the masking did not work very well and again a picture of what I am trying to achieve

also the rotor blade holder is not in place yetIMG_1481.thumb.JPG.f48561f66e9321682d488f3c5742acbb.JPGIMG_1483.thumb.JPG.97399704fb8655e16d4b052023213f84.JPG59c73dd2cf72f_Glamorgan1971(2).thumb.jpg.8f18a3b45bf1cbdd61ebafe2b045184a.jpg

Led Lights arrived today, intentions are to use these where possible to simulate internal lighting only, like the hanger, Bridge, and passage ways I need to think ahead as to how they are going to fit, but they can be cut down to lengths of 3 leds,

IMG_1478.thumb.JPG.3a0ea80dc6961112d7db29f1ef6fc7a7.JPGIMG_1479.thumb.JPG.13284f51f0b4d4cffedf3bc34ebd36f1.JPG

the last phot was just to see what they will look like, and how easy it will be to hide any wiring, I have a remote control for them on its way, so lol i hope they do the job

Good evening everyone

i was happy with the hanger, but last weekend i ripped the after block off (director gear office) and did it again

this was because at the end of the hanger roof  where it drops down would not sit square (sorted)

IMG_1500.thumb.JPG.ceef5b8fff7b89ccc58e496fcb7f9470.JPG

i am even putting in access points, in case i need them

everything is removable at this time

this weekend has been working forward of the hanger, and the big question, (could i do better), lets find out

not turning back as it all went in the bin, even the dog ate some

back to the idea of building with 3mm MDF

IMG_1520.thumb.JPG.db427700253ae9782f3196d575303c88.JPG

using the plans to keep the centre line correct, i made a spacers to keep it all lines up, these eventually become vents and exhausts

this is not my photo, but you can see what I mean towards the end of the hanger

IMG_1533.thumb.JPG.e4a450dad271bffcce67b10f13636748.JPG

when happy 1mm plasticard was added to the roof, and more access points added

also stared to add 0.5mm skim to the bulkheads, as ot flows around the corners i created

Kevin, I think the MDF will give you much greater rigidity. Have you considered 1/8" ply and rejected it? The build is looking good.

That amazing work you do. The idea with the heli fits in such a lovley detail.

The kit offers a plenty of possibilitys to you to show amaising details. The hangar is a good example. If you look for the signs all over the, walls and thethe yellow-black spriping you need,: you can download a plenty from the web, arrange and resize them with MS paint ad after saving them ashalf pdf print them in your local copyshop. To get the right screw/rivet effect in this little scale pin in from backside with a needle first to imitate the screw then soak the hole sign with superglue to pick it on the wallright so you'll get a special surface a bit differing from the wall behind.

Here I tryed the technic on a box scaled in 1/56 to imitare riviting.

keith yes i have considered lots, but keep going back to MDF, i still have no intentions of putting her into water, infact I am still thinking of opening sections of the hull up to show internal details, I just wish I had access top better references

good morning, thankyou for your comments yes i have amble scope for the extra detailing, but at present i just want to get the superstructure built up and then go around adding all the nice little bits, the helicopter/hanger idea was just to see if i had what (skill levels) it needs for the build

Doesn't look like you have to worry about your skill level Kevin, you are "blazing" through this build pretty good. Looking great from here, ummm, Palm Coast, Florida.

Cheers,

Piet thank you for your comments, im enjoying this build  a lot, i managed to get some more covering of the MDF last night, but realised that perhaps this is not the best time to do it, as there is lots more bits of superstructure to be added which means i will have to adapt what is in place to fit it, i will update as I move on

  • 2 weeks later...

good evening everyone

I forgot to post build progress last weekend

I moved to the forward superstructure, as i want to keep the project at or around the same amount of progress,

so with my modified light box a set of plans and a piece of plasticard, off I jolly well went

IMG_1554.thumb.JPG.d4bd37cbab7ffab3c5dad1e72d9ad510.JPGIMG_1556.thumb.JPG.26765edee7ede2f6d6e947f9bf16d0df.JPGIMG_1557.thumb.JPG.433d0159050fb9f143ebf27378bcd919.JPG

at the efter end of the fwd section there is a split level deck, there is access doors and ladders down the main deck

this is not my photo

but you can see behind the boat the area i am on about

jh6Io9D.thumb.jpg.ff3f94ecfa937bfde7a5ddeed90cd6bf.jpg

to finish the weekend off I made the support area for the fwd mast

Good evening everyone

this weekend the bridge module was made

took three attempt to get it looking right,

im quite pleased how it is coming together now

the awkward bit was putting the skin on as it splits, the upper part around the bridge winds, where as the lower part wraps around the base

Ah yes, that superstructure is coming along quite nicely Kevin. She's beginning to look like a war ship, outstanding.
