I think I still may buy a torch and silver solder.

I use Silver Solder Paste and a butane Mini-Torch. The paste has the flux mixed in with it, and can be applied with a toothpick or similar. It comes in various ranges of Melting Point, but I don't think a soldering iron would get hot enough (at least my little El-Cheapo one doesn't :D ).

The masts on Amatsukaze are CA glued together without any problems. I would have soldered them, but I was out of gas at the time :(. In either case a very neat joint is required, with a fair bit of filing involved on the rounded wire.

I love this piece, but I don't know why. I'm a wierdo I guess. I just keep staring at it.

Probably because it turned out so well ? Nice :D.

The extra details are worth the effort...seemingly simple things (we know better) like a ladder or a railing.

So many amazing details to look at...and what's yet to come...the BIG picture.

Great show!

Thank you Robin. It's true! I hope the BIG picture will be pretty cool to look at.

I was home for 30 min so I quickly airbrushed some life rafts. Dont ask me why I chose white because I dont know. With all this painting lately theres going to be a whole lot of weathering or shading or washing the next few days. Which I like because thats what makes it come to life.

Maybe a tad dingier on your rafts. Or hit them with an India ink/alcohol wash to bring up some of the detail. All your details look great.

Yves thats true. I was thinking the same thing. But I'm stuck, I already went kinda heavy on the first deck. I have to keep it  consistant now I should of never went heavy  from the start.  And i' ve never weathered before either. I dont think I  could go lite on weathering anyway lol.  My next ship I will do a better job since i'll have a little bit of experience.

I rather call it shading instead of weathering and I think it looks really good. The details show nicely and that's where this is good for.

Weathering on the other hand...paint damage, rust, rust streaks, dirt, smoke, grime...that's a very tough job to get it right.

More often then not it ruins an otherwise fantastic build.

Imho...you do fine!

As Robin wrote. you can see a very good weathered ship if you take a look here and another one here . He'll be starting a new one ... most probably worth while visiting ...

You are doing rather well Scott. I'm hard pressed to do mine as well as you do!

Cheers

Thanks guys, yes shading is a better term. Thats what I'm so afraid of , ruining the model.  I'm still not happy with the shading though. Maybe its because I've  been looking at it to long. Perhaps it will look better to me in the morning.

Oh wow! Those weathered ships are amazing. Cog, I'm sure ur models put mine to shame. I haven't done this in 27 years since I was 11 lol.

So today is exactly 1 year since the Bismarck got delivered to my house, my how time flys. I put some deck on but had to stop there for the day.

Your shading worked out well. I like the addition of the deck ... quite an improvement.

Thanks Scott, however, those aren't my builds but Greg's (RGL).

I'm nowhere near on the Musashi compared to where you are presently with your build - I'm still bending and adding PE, just finished the last of the rails for the airplanes, next up for me putting together the tripple AA guns.
