Hello

I am an Australian and some of my family members were at Gallipoli, I would just like to say DON'T BLAME THE BRITISH FOR EVERY THING, take a good look at your backgrounds first and do your research before making one line comments.

Nice paintings Jim.

Jo.

Hi Shipscat,

I am British and also an ex serviceman so I reckon I can make a one line comment if I wish. And what I said is in the main true. Incompetent General Staff Officers had much to do with the many debacles including Gallipoli in WW 1. Donkeys adequately sums many of them up.

My apologies to Vegaskip for posting this in his  thread.

Demobilisation

After WW2. HMS Northern Wave (and her sisters) returned to their peace time occupation of Deep Sea Fishing. They hunted fish in the same waters they had hunted U Boats. Although now they didn’t have to face Bombs and Torpedoes, they still had the old enemies of the cold and the sea. Now it wasn’t Cargoes for Russia. Now it was Cod for the dinner table!?

Northern Gem
Just felt like painting the ship, I like the 'pose'. Good practice for filling in the bits you can’t see, all about suggestion. I wasn’t paying attention when rigging the foremast, however if you don’t know Trawlers you probably won’t notice.

Yeah, I read an account where a Buccaneer tore off its tail pod at Red Flag, pulling UP into power line.

Your painting of that Buccaneer brought back a memory of that first Red Flag for the RAF. My squadron hosted the Buc crews for those 2 weeks. We flew cover/escort for them up to a range in Utah one afternoon. We started down a canyon thru a range of hills and followed them until the canyon got so narrow we were spending all our time avoiding rocks and not providing much cover for the Bucs. They both looked like they were flying on their shadows.  We climbed a couple hundred feet and stayed below the peaks of that range, while following. Gained much respect for their skills that afternoon. 👍

Another great portrait!  What used to be called the Cass Scenic Railroad and I believe is now a West Virginia State Park operates a fleet of these unique geared steam locomotives.  Many years ago my wife and I rode a train pulled by one of these up through a number of switchbacks to the top of a mountain.  For those traveling through the area this is not to be missed.

Love the Shay! Much of Northern California where I did fisheries work had been railroad logged back in the day. There were still trestles and track beds in many places. Some of the logging roads followed the old rail lines, and, in a few instances, crossed streams on the original railway bridges.

"The destinies of two [countries]...seem to be tied by some god-damned things called LST's"
-Winston Churchill

Love your, 'One of the Beaches', work and appropriate to 6 June 1944. Love the LST's, 1051 were made to support the Amphibious assaults that were happening around the world. Spent 3 months aboard the Cheboygan County LST 533, 'She was one of the "T's" that were there', for familuaration as part of the commissioning crew of the Clark County LST 601. My Vietnam time was a Gunner's mate on the Harnett County LST 821, TF 116, TU 76.8.3 so really enjoy seeing these one mission ships in your work. The Harnett County LST 821 is still serving the Philippine Government as a placeholder with a handful of their Marines aboard in the South China Sea. //////////////////http://defensestatecraft.blogspot.com/2014/04/treasure-of-sierra-madre-wwii-lst-in.html///////////

Lest we forget, great pictures.

The horrors and atrocities of WWII cannot be forgotten we have despots right now preaching nationalism worldwide even in this country.

Don't say it can't happen again. Look what the little corporal with the funny mustache did in Germany.

Should be a required course in school.

Again Vega great pictures Tom Brokaw called them the greatest generation. Thanks to all who served in all conflicts to protect this country, our freedom and defend our Constitution.
