Arthurs Seat, the Salisbury Crags and the Pentland Hills in the far distance behind Edinburgh Castle. I grew up in Auld Reekie from 1941 to the late 1950's. Your painting brought back quite a few memories. Thanks for that. BTW,love all of your paintings.

Interesting name for a ship - in Old English, that's Eg-beorht (from which comes the name Egbert. Probably. Though it may come from Ecg-beorht - bright EDGE - like on a sword).

Although the Canadians used other names

It would take me a name-by-name check but I think that those corvettes that were transferred from the RN to the RCN maintained heir flower names as Eyebright did. Those ships built in Canadian yards and went directly into the RCN had names of Canadian cities or possibly rivers in addition to flowers. I also may be wrong! (If you are in doubt check with my wife, she will confirm that I am.:(

It almost makes her look like someone is trying to say "Here I am" compared to all of the other ships in the convoy!

That is a lovely painting, instantly recognisable as an Apollo class cruiser,  by coincidence I’m researching one of her sisters - HMS Scylla for a project I have in mind to build all five of the HMS Scylla’s that have served in the RN (due to a family connection).

I sailed a few times in company with the 1960’s Scylla , although I was on Carriers. Here is another Scylla

Ah, another great painting of probably the most famous "Scylla" 👏 - There are plenty of photos and a 'Pathe' newsreel on YouTube about her Arctic Convoy exploits, the anti-aircraft duties, dealing with icing and Winston Churchill addressing the crew on top of the aft gun turret!  Think one of the gunnery officers wrote a memoir of the time, I think called "Flagship to Murmansk", but have not got a copy yet.

I'm building up reference for when Trumpeter finally release their 1/350 version of her.

Thank you for sharing. 😀
