Nice work on the ratlines and rest of the rigging.  You're going to be done with this ship before you know it.

Hi ZyXuz

I did think of hermione of harry potter the first time I saw/heard the name Hermione la fayette. I love the films!!!

I will make a lot of details in my cabin as you mentioned, and because my ship is bigger, I can make put a lot more in the cabin. Yours is really, as i mentioned before, a good example for me. I have already bought some wood for it.

Cheers,

Nick

Finally, after 3 months and a half, my ship is now completed :)

All the yardarms are now on, and also the anchors (which I finished as closing ceremony :P) Anyway, I'm still working on the display case. It shouldn't take too long.

Anyway, here are the updates!

Spritsail and main yards riggings were easier because there are lesser riggings in front, in which I can do the riggings more comfortably.

And some 'forcing' were done to make the yards look parallel  :P

Also, added more lamps on my ship.. :)

The mizzen riggings are harder to handle because all the backstays are blocking my hands to rig on the pin rail.

And the anchors...

And finally the full view :)
Flag pole is on too, with a lamp attached.

The whole process has been very fun and enjoyable. Thanks MSW for creating such a good site, to share and learn together. That really benefits me! :)

And thanks to those who helped me on this.. without references and opinions here, I couldn't finished my ship as such satisfying result :)

Thank you and thanks again for dropping by my build log! :D

OK, it's time for the display case!! :)

Hey ZyXuz. My compliments for finishing your ship and a big congrats on how she turned out. She is a real beauty. Very clean and nice build. I still would love to see her on one of the Cornwallis cannons. ;-) I am sure she will be a treasure in your home. Thanks for sharing your build with us.

Thanks for all the kind words..

Harry,

Thanks!

Yes, she's my precious.. :)

I'd also love to see that, but the fort is around 30 minutes away from my house. I might need a friend to drive, while I hold my ship whole way long with very care :P

The fort is facing east, a sunrise shot would be great! :D

Thanks!

Mike,

Yea, that'd be great building parallel :)

I think my ship is 2 weeks or so from arrival, can't wait to unbox it! :D

I might also need some lathes for my yards tapering and other fittings.. surveying now :)

or you guys have any suggestion?

I love the Unimat 1 which can handheld drill, and mill vertical and horizontally!

I do see that it did organized a workshop in Malaysia under the workshop tab, but just can't online store selling in Malaysia..

I think I'll need to ask in my local forum!

Anyway, thanks Harry!

I have the Proxxon mini lathe DB250.  It came in very handy in building my masts and spars on my Badger.

Thanks Mike!

I ordered it from a local carpenter.. actually my dad's friend, a church member..

he's quite famous in our area, and provides reasonable price..

the only bad thing is it was too slow.. I've cleaned spider webs off my ship thrice waiting the case to arrive :D

Well, I plan to start it right next month since I'm still single and always free at home :P

Currently planning the color theme of my Unicorn, and some modification to be done.

Also, I've started buying better tools.. gonna make myself a DIY lathe and drill press stand to cut cost

Can't wait to START!!!  :dancetl6:  :dancetl6:

Great looking ketch, ZyXuz!  I'm working on the same model myself, and have been for the past five years - I took some serious breaks when my kids were born.  Having a look at your build log has really helped me as I build, as the instructions and plans sometimes leave something to be desired.  My hull and deck are all planked and I'm working on the deck furniture now.  I do have a question for you: what did you use for the handrails on top of the bullwarks?  It looks like the lighter basswood, but what size? Thanks!

Hi Tyrnac,

Thanks for your kind words. :)

I used the materials provided by the kit, should be LIME wood I think. The kit instruction suggests to use separate wood for the handrails: 3mm x 2mm for inner part, and 2mm x 2mm for the outer part or in total 5mm x 2mm. As shown

post-3519-0-91943900-1392558836_thumb.jpg

But, if you just use 5mm x 2mm instead, it will cause the bow part impossible to bend.. Hope you get what I mean  :)

Gotcha!  I think some of my slow progress in my build can be attributed to my desire not to mess things up.  Then, I stop caring, take a decision, and make huge progress.  I started planking the inners with the 2x3mm lime the other day, and got everything except for the forecastle finished.  I still have to saw out the holes for the catheads before I plank that.  Did you just bend the wood (plank bender? cut and bend? clamp and glue?) or did you cut out several pieces to make the curve run smoother?

haha.. the same thing happened on me too when I'm about to modify something :D caring too much really just slow things down, just make a decision and start working ;)

I dipped the plank in boiled water first, that will make the strip easier to bend, then only clamp and glue. Hope this help :)
