Santisima Trinidad by md1400cs – FINISHED - OcCre - 1/90 - cross-section - bashed

Denis & Martyn -

Thanks for encouraging words. Now working on ratlines - bit slow but you know that these bits are time consuming, and need to be properly spaced along with so many Clover hitches,  - well not so stimulating either.  😐

Minor update;

Attached topmast and top gallant to lower main. All came out ok.

Finished topmast shrouds and ratlines.

Added Futtock staves, kit instructions precluded those, even for lower mainmast. Staves are simply tied to and glued to shrouds.

Installed Futtock shrouds as well to lower platform.

Next step is to attach all ropes, jeers, and parrel to lower main yard.

Topmast yard is almost done as well – will install it next.

Stay well everyone –

Hi Mates,

Thanks for the likes and comments.

Tom: Yes rather tall indeed including the small base she's 36" (91cm) X 18" (45cm) for the lower yard.

She is looking much more like a ship --

Attached the lower yard.

Need to connect the sling bits - I know that with the jeers, the parrels were not needed - and probably incorrect. As I was installing the

yard I almost removed the parrels - then though they were already mounted and it would be easier to attach the yard. Also they can hardly be seen from the front view - oh well.

I will follow the look of the official kit photo regarding the sails - though might completely furl the topgallant - still 🧐about that - Now onto prepping the upper yard

Here are a few updated images.

Running rigging is close to being completed. Wanted to add a bit of more detail to the sails at the Buntline connection. See arrow. The Boudriot 74 gun ship book shows these rings.

I had purchased – way back when – some small eyelets but found no particular use for them (outer ring shape was wrong) but found a perfect use for them here.

Also: alternatively black plastic parrel beads would work just as well (just a bit of sanding to flatten the tops would make them look excellent) I will re-do the lower mainsail and add these bits of details.  ------ Then below, just general updated images –

I know some of those – if not all – ropes are way too long, as they end at pins. But I messed up with Vasa and had pre-cut ropes too short. Did not want to revisit that frustration especially after I had installed all masts and connected the mast shrouds.

Richard,  thanks - yes trying to save myself extra work. Numbering the lines should also allow a sequence for attaching - if these numbers work the way other

kit rigging sheet instructions have in the past. And I want to finish this project sooner rather than later -

Almost done (well for me this will still be some time later) - all rigging installed. Need to spool 40+ coils to wrap at pins, then untangle and install lines -

wall display case is also being made.   thankfully all lanterns still OK.

Incredible! It is like reading a book. Each deck is a different chapter with new settings and details each building upon one another to tell a complete story. I've always wanted to build a cross section and once again, I find myself inspired by your work. I may need to look into one more seriously. :)

Denis: yes and the jungle has gotten confusing

E.J: thanks again, you are always so kind with your comments. Your thoughts were sort of my intentions - to give each deck a different perspective – so glad that you liked the concept.

your thoughts are so encouraging -- This build was, for me,  a great learning experience.

Your skill sets are way up there – A cross section would be right up your alley indeed. I have learned a lot following your work. The lights idea, for example, came from following one of your builds.

=========

But now having a bit of grief with OCree rigging instructions.

When I built the pin rails, I counted the “numbers” on the instruction sheet and drilled accordingly the same amount of pin-holes per railing side.

Now it turns out that lower and top sails have four bunt lines per yard seemed just about right when I rigged the sails (didn’t think about this current issue.

I assumed (that famous word) that each number for pin rail on the illustration sheet stood for an individual rope location on the rail.

Now in the process of locating the ropes in the correct places – the instruction sheet only references only two pin locations per yard for 220 and 221 -- need four location.

And NOW looking even more carefully it appears as if locations numbers 212, and 220 drop into a same single hole. So need to find/invent four extra pin locations  -- Need to figure out how to “fix” this grrrr.

Marvelous job!   I see you have discovered the infamous OcCre rigging plans!  I had some of the same issues with the last OcCre kit I did - 2 lines going to 1 pin plus difficulty trying to determine the run of some of the lines.  Some were shown actually running from a stay in front of a sail & belaying to a pin behind the sail:huh:!  I ended up deviating from the plans in places just to make it look halfway believable.   Luckily, you only have 1 mast to deal with:).   Love the lights!

Mark:  thanks for your nice post, as well as following along much appreciated indeed. Yes this was a wake-up-call. Never occurred to me that rigging plan sheets would have those kind of issues. Well this one is only my third build so seasoning is a bit newbie for me in that regard. Will certainly be more cautious here on out.

So, spent the last four or five sessions working on untangling all of the crossed lines - once I had found pin locations. More or less done (looks "ok")- now starting to add coil loops, and securing lines with pins. And, as you mentioned, needed to do some "creative" changes to rigging - and yes thankfully it's only one mast and four yards - sails certainly add lots of extra work next - just shrouds and ratlines - case is being built as well - --I won't post again until she is Finished ---- I'm sure you're all getting bored with my similar area posts of late.

MIchael and Mates,

Thanks so much - She's finished - will post some proper images along with the case after it's made. Framing is done (wood) - now at plastic shop getting plexiglass sides, front and top fitted. Then need to connect the wires to bat. pack along with a few other details...

Just started my next project - will start a new log as well. Sergal's Sovereign of the Seas - planning (hopefully) on bashing it as well.

The new McKay book  will be very helpful. Just started doing basic framing - not interesting - every kit starts life the same way 😂

Cheers,

Michael
