Per Posted April 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 18, 2013 Yesterday, I came upon a couple of photos of one of RMS Olympic's lifeboats, taken around the time of her scrapping in the mid-30s. On the top seven strakes are these faired filling pieces stretching along the centre half of the hull. Does anyone know their function and what they are called? Their p[urpose was to stop the planking strakes from catching on protruding rivets or plate edges as the boat was being lowered - that's why they're only along the midships section.
