HMAS Vendetta 1925 by cog, popeye the sailor, and RGL - Showcase Models -1/350 - Finished

Recommended Posts

Different radar, no torpedo tubes(?) ... to make the wiring from the main mast to the rear brace might pose a problem, could make the brace from a single piece of brass though ...

I'm missing depth charge throwers like these (Micromaster at shapeways) there should be four according to the last conversion on wikipedia

These photos show the throwers and storage stands. In 1945 the lantern radar at the spotlight pedestal was removed, the two single 2 pounders where the second of the triple torpedo tubes was removed and replaced by two Bofors single barrel AA guns.

When I do the final build later this year I will do it here.

Probably lost it with high seas ;) Looks like they replaced it with a third funnel :)

I was going to wait till the end to show pictures Carl,  but I still have a little bit more to go still.   here's what I have so far.   the forward sections of railing were added....

1812976107_1.jpg.cf5c0c219ab5e3096a7ac462766c91e5.jpg

on the starboard side,  the other life boat was added.  I also added pulleys to the davits........I broke one,  so one port side davit doesn't have any.  I'll see what I have in the Hood set.....

1147007085_2.jpg.534a808a89e9a664576b8cb9bc20b3c4.jpg

there are vents aft on the deck on both sides......they were added,  as well as the props and the anchors

1599729153_3.jpg.e27fc4d8bf67167f3b5815f0d698fbec.jpg

then the aft railings..........a feat to get the ca to stick around the stern

1174730692_4.jpg.14d64e89a6eac53ec857ffb727a2ab2f.jpg

the flag staffs have also been added.  more to come.

So finally arrived from France today (the French post office sent it back to the shop once because apparently Australia does not exist) I got a twin flack for Z-25 (I’ll get to it) and some signal lamps and Hedge hogs for the next Vendetta. Nice touch the chocolates

Yes, Australia does not exist for illiterate French post people: it is Australie  en Francais and they probably could not correlate the two names... 😞

The Petite Galettes are very good and you got the improved model with chocolate chips....

Eh oui, Yves, c'est dur pour les Français. Heureusement pas pour tous ;) It seems I've not been to France recently enough I haven't seen the galettes with chocolate chips ...

Very nice 3D printed parts. Checked out their site ... they have some lovely parts and kits ...

I was fortunate enough to be with the UN in East Timor at the turn of the century, and a African bloke asked me why I couldn’t speak French, I tried to explain that Australia is the middle of nowhere, we don’t need to. He wasn’t happy with that answer but I didn’t have to go back to Africa.

My late farther spent a couple of years in Australia  just after the war  cratting up  fighters ready to be shipped back to blighty, even found out I have a brother out there I knew nothing about  - that was my dad for you  "girl in every port".

chocolate?   love Dutch chocolate!   I was going to post a small update yesterday,  but I got carried away.........no......not by the white coat people.  more reno to the spare room........   had a small mishap with the fore mast...it's being reworked.   I dozed at my computer and crunched it with my head :(  of course,  I had replaced it with brass rod,  so it had a bit more resistance than if it were the original parts.  the prick mark in the middle of my forehead has healed nicely.......I've added the ladder and painted it this morning,  and should have it back on board later today.  then I can put the finish to her and get her off the desk before anything else happens.  gotta go cut some wood  ;)

I must admit that I never considered getting a mast through the head as a recommended way to be woken up, but to each his own. Slap a Band-Aid over the hole and model on!:D

images.jpg.ab76c9eb5077abec1eb5576d66e2ed96.jpg ..........now that I've had time to clear my head.......

......sorry.........lost my mind for a minute there......  my sense of humor does require some getting use to  ;)   the mast had been broken before.  pulling the rest of the mast out,  the overall length was taken and cut from fresh rod.  the yards were removed from the old one and added on,  then the look out basket.  I too some of that thin wire and also did the yard rigging.

817272288_1.jpg.a082fa4c96786df35929bfb515a9e5a7.jpg

the ladder was added and then the mast was painted.  I also rigged the aft mast.

179161256_2.jpg.9074601febacc9a021a00751c5f249f9.jpg

still need to do some touchups around the deck area.  the mast was reinstalled and rigging was added......not sure as to how far I will go with it.

I'm gonna call her finished.......if I mess with 'er any more,  I might ruin her.   life preservers,  flags,  and general touching up ;)   enjoy!  I photogged her on the new table for the PT boat.......it's a bit low.......might serve well for sailing ships.
