Trafalgar Class Submarine by Old Collingwood - Airfix - 1/350

Recommended Posts

Here are a couple of pics showing the conning tower top fitted with slightly thinned down parts - periscope etc,   the photos are not too great as they where indoors with just kitchen lights and no flash,  both were a bit grainy due to high ISO and the close up was a very low shutter speed so a bit of shake.

Just to show you how dumb I am, I have been looking and wondering about the square hole in the hull under the sail was for this entire build. It suddenly came to me in a flash! The bow on this sub is almost all sonar! The torpedo room is amidships and the hole is a door for the tubes.

Hopefully Kevin or someone more knowledgeable will straighten me out if I am wrong.

Im not sure what those two off square protrusions are under the sail/conning tower,   but the torpedo tubes are situated towards the bottom on the bow, two on the low starboard - two low port side and one mid center,  they can launch all sorts of devices from these tubes inlculding missiles.

Transfer day -  I foregot how fiddly this stage was:o  but I managed to fit them,    so apart from doing a little bit of light touch up,  then mounting it on a base and a final spray of rattle can matt (need to buy one of these)  its near finished.

Looks great OC. Very convincing. Does it come with a decal for the placard in front of the model?

I need to buy a piece of wood and make some pedestals  before I flat coat it.

The builder make the difference. The PE is just parts like all the other parts. Are you going to add railings, or keep her submerged?

I think the railings on her will be a step too far and I might ruin her by trying,   but I will finish her off with a wood plinth and a pedestal or two, and a couple of coats of flat spray when I get round to buying it.
