Dubz Zvezda Star Destroyer 1:2700

Recommended Posts

As some might know or noticed I don't had and have much time for woodbuilding at the moment. But I always liked to do some SciFy Kits (Allready finished the Battlestar Galactica). Even almost finished I like to write my buildlog here too over the next days 🙂 The SD will be full lightend and with a lot of scratch build and extensions. Hope you like it. I mean it's at least a "ship" .. hehe.

So pictures.

Doesn't the fiber get in the way with airbrushing, especially considering the number of fibers you have used ...

Awesome build Dubz, glad you could remedy the unfortunate accident, I like the added detail you have put on. What paint do you use for primer?

The fiber gets shorten more before airbrushing .. but sometimes still a bit shadowing what is ok for a build like this I think.

Engine Section, Hangarbays and Trenches are airbrushed. I then cutted the FO's in the trenches using a sharp micro chisel.

Now it's about preparing the lighting.

Bridge and upper super structure got their first coat of paint. My main goal for the bridge was to get a nice depth and shadows. I am happy with the result.

You got me curious with your fiber optics .. The black you use at the interior, is taht an enamel paint, primer, or acrylic?

I like the propulsion's lighting, very futuristic ... I still have an Enterprise on the shelf ... besides a lot of other kits I must remind myself!!

Sorry Carl I forgot to answer this before. It's Vallejo Primer.

Excuse me if I am asking something you have explained somewhere already, but are the tubes, pipes, and details you have added made from scratch or are they part of an after market detailing kit?

Pure scratch 🙂

What is the actual length of the Star Destroyer supposed to be?  It would appear that several modern day aircraft carriers could fit inside. :D

1.6km for a Star Destroyer. Enough Space for some Nimitz Class Carriers  😛

I'm  wondering how large the props were that were used in the films as compared to your model.

That depends but up to 3m I think.

Dirk

Dubz

I noted you are using the Vallejo primers, I was going to purchase these as they seems good value when compared to other manufacturers such as Tamiya and Gunze . However I have heard some bad things about them  such as taking a long time to dry and issues with sanding and also they that the primer chips very easily. Are you able  to provide your thoughts on this and are whether you are using Vallejo for the top coats?

Have you come across the levelling thinner by Gunze - everyone I know who uses this says it is a fantastic product.

By the way this is a fantastic build - I showed some photos to a colleague who is interested in Sci-Fi and you blew his mind :)

Will you be going back to your ships soon?

The primer is quite easy to apply but I have the impression that it does not always adhere very well. Top coats are Tamiya.

Maybe at the end of the year. We are moving in 3 weeks and it will take some more month to get my new workshop build. Until then only small wood or plastic projects are possible.

cheers,

Dirk

  • 3 months later...

It's a while I posted some progress ... Had to do a lot with moving and our new home 🙂

Before the move I finally glued the hull together and then there was a break for month ...

Wow, just WOW.

There are times when I look at a model and seriously consider hanging up my glues and paints...

This is one of those times.

You have taken a model that could have been grey and lifeless, and turned it into ………

…..well I can feel those engines spooling up, I can hear the commander barking out his orders on the bridge and I can see the droids scurrying about the corridors.

Fantastic, Sir, and thank you so much for sharing.
