Impressive work Greg.  I'm totally befuddled with your painting technique.  Just shows you that I am a brush type artist (oil, water color), even though I have spray painted many airplanes when I owned an airplane repair facility in New jersey.

What is that "chipping" business you are talking about?  What kind of paints do you use?  Is there a handy dandy "how to paint model ships" book available?  I guess I'll have to take a trip to OZ for some lessons 😉

Cheers,

Piet, The Flying Dutchman.

You are a braver man than I Greg.

The structure above the crows nest looks really fragile. I think I would be tempted to leave it until after the superstructure was finished! But then you have been through this a few times before and there is no question you know what you are doing.

It looks like you had to drill for the hand rails around the stack. How do you measure for the spacing around the curved surface?

The kit comes with its own PE, the dimples are for those. The Infini also has the handrails. There is a real art is putting them on and then adding a drop of glue. I usually put them in a stick with blue tack on them then put them on a stick and let it sit horizontally.

The other option is to put evenly spaced rings and place wire through it.

The crows nest is quite hard but also somewhat inaccurate. This photo is only accurate as to how it’s supposed to actually look (the crows nest itself).

So you're back ... I hate those rails 'round the funnel. It always turns out into an endless struggle to get them aligned and (<-key word) glued on. Even with PE this requires some kit bashing, or should I say PE bashing ... I like the fact the rigging scheme is included, makes life a lot easier.

I'll be starting on her, as far as possible. Waiting for the PE. have to look into the drill template for the netting, might need some additional brass trinkets

Oh you do love a challenge Greg, that PE looks more than a little difficult! Good luck :)

The paint effect is very good and representative of a well worn 'work horse' of the fleet.

Nice work Greg.  Those cranes may be just what I am looking for also :)  Are they part of the kit PE or aftermarket?

Greg,    any advice for painting using rattle cans  - as in   -  spray  the parts prior to assembly  or  assemble first then paint all that is built  in one go.

My logic is  - if you rattle can the frets uisng  primer and  required color, its easier to hold and get an even spray coat,   then  seems could be touched up with the same color by brush when assembled.

Only an enuiry if you dont have a sprayer.

I use a rattle can for primer on metal as it sticks really well. I used to do it all by can and brush now it’s mainly airbrush as it is such a scalpel. You can do so much with it and only uses a tiny amount of paint.

I would only paint a really big piece of metal on the fret if it didn’t need to be bent. My dreadnought was all rattle can.
