IL Leudo by SHIPSCAT (Jolene) - Mamoli - scale 1:34

Recommended Posts

The first round of planking smoothed out nicely, and it looks like you're already applying the lessons learned from that process on the second. Keep up the good work, and remember-- the only person you are competing against here is yourself. It's useful to look around and take notes about how other people are doing things, particularly if they are working on the same subject, but at the same time it's important to let your build reflect your own choices and style.

Hello all

I have now glued 4 planks on each side and to my surprise they all meet up at the bow and stern, well only about 1/2mm out at the bow.

I also gave part of the planks a quick sand down to see what it looks like.

Jo,

Ulises is right. Maybe not at once with your first build, but that's the beauty of it all, you can go on to your next build and know things will get easier, and we can see you improve with every plank you shape :D

Hello Ulises.

Yes I do hope it gets easier.

I have more glue on my fingers than on the planks 😊.

Hello Carl

Did you have your eyes open when you looked at my photos 🤣.

Not sure if I will improve or not but I do hope so as I don't wish to let you all down.

But I have to say the ship looks better than the photos.

I have about 9 planks on each side to glue on, then the hard job of sanding down (my poor fingers are going to bleed again I just know it haha).

If I used my eyes, Jo ... well it is more something like a "Fingerspitzengefühl" what you will be missing after sanding according to your writings ;)

Everybody improves, even I did, although not noticeably :D

There is just one dilemma

Hello Carl

Soon 😊.

Question, when I have sanded the hull planks down I am told that I should put some sanding sealer on.

Now is it just for varnish or paint or both.

Hi all.

Ok I have finished the planking on both sides and started sanding down one side.

I still have to go over the hull with 120 grit and 320 grit (that is what the man said at the shop).

After I have finished the sanding down I will plank the bottom of the keel and the back and front bits.

I also have a bit of filling to do before I do the final sanding, but my fingers have been bleeding so will leave it till tomorrow 😪.

Jo.

Thank you for your comment it is very much appreciated, but when I look at other builds I say to myself why don't mine look like that, but hey I have a lot of learning to do.

Hello Ms Bleeding Kitty Cat,

Wonderful job, especially for a first time. The tips of your fingers will get tougher, it all takes time, like the ease of work you will gain with every laid plank.

Keep your spirits up

Cheers

Carl

Jo:

I have been building models since I was a child (I'm 70 now) and wooden ships exclusively for over 15 years, and I still look at others builds and say to my self "why don't mine look like that, but hey, I have a lot of learning to do" :)

Get used to that feeling, my dear, and use it to your advantage ;)

Hugs :)

Hello shipmates

I have now filled and sanded both sides, will go over it again with some 320 grit like the man at the shop told me to.

I think I will paint the top part white, if the middle of the hull looks Ok I will varnish that part, and the bottom will be painted but not sure what colour yet, was thinking dark green ?.

So excited now most of that nasty sanding has been done 😁.

Jo.

Sorry the H at the end of varnish has moved down hahahaaahhahhaa.

Jo,

Your planking looks good! I would start the varnish from the water line up to the protruding (wale) plank. The waterline is the black line painted on the hull , see the box. I like your choice of colours

Jo,

Just stopped by to take a look, and you've really made a lot of progress.

And I agree, the planking looks very good.

It's all coming together nicely and hey, you grow more blood every day so don't begrudge your ship a few drops now and then.

Keep up the good work,

:)
