USS Fletcher by RGL - FINISHED - Tamiya - 1/350 - PLASTIC

Recommended Posts

I think if I’d planned this build a bit better I’d probably just disregard the PE non stick and use some very coarse brush on primer with mask.

This was only ever supposed to be a sorbet between my next major build as I collect bits and pieces. One thing I do notice is how heavily invested people are in destroyers more than any other ship.

There were more of them than the bigger crafts ;)

Further to the advice CapnMac offers re deck numbering which is correct for USN vessels; the RN (and most Commonwealth Navies) use a different system of single digit designators (1-n) decks down from the weather deck (weather deck being 1 deck), and double digit  (01 - nn) above the weather deck for upper decks - 01 deck being the next up from the weather deck.  In this instance, as it is pre 1947, the 04 designation would align :)  Offered only to clarify for other classes /nationalities of vessels.

cheers

So, about 5 days of throwing everything left to go onto the ship together, primer coat  A72CC36D-F09C-43BB-B943-ACC2A5D1E377.thumb.jpeg.56fa14e29481792331eea78528855f70.jpeg then a grey coat. Quite a collection of deck furniture. You can make it liveable, finally. Thought you were a bit silent, but you must have been sulking in your corner 'cause of the bofors ... glad there are replacement parts for those "at hand".

Did you lacquer the hull prior to putting the decals on? I found it was easier to position the decals. Afterwards spray with clear mat, which gave a better sheen to the ship than the plain paint (whichever brand)

Decals are tomorrows job, I’ll just give them a matte coat prior to weathering. I’ve been quiet as all these tiny pieces have just taken forever to collate, plus work, dayshift and dropping #1 son off at rowing at 0545 every other morning. Wife, #2 son and dog off to the beach for the end of Autumn and Easter so I’m at home alone to finish this off.

Home alone ... don't make a mess of it, at least you can get something done, if work doesn't interfere. I really have to get used to your seasons, they make ours seem off track, or ours are(!)

I like those depthcharge throwers next to Y-turret, got a few of those (3D printed) for the RCN destroyer. She is turning out rather well, mate. The oilcanning looks very good too. Don't forget to eat now you're home alone

Grilled veggies and a nice piece of beef. I'm in.

The destroyer is turning out well, Greg. It is a dark camo scheme.

I think it’s lighting OC, this is such a dull paint job, I’ll do a better job on the final shots I promise. I kinda lost interest in this one about half way through as it’s a lot of plod. I’ll enjoy this build a lot more when I get to a bit of weathering.

I get ya mate  - I have the same issue  with my mobile phone camera  - the light is either to harsh from the modeling light I need to use  - or to dark, best light is outdoors.

looks the part, mate. Although, you could do with some AA guns ... painting turned out real good ... not to much not to little. How did you make the netting, part of the detailup set?

Another stunning model.  I think it's now time for a carrier... They cost a "trifle" more, but think of the enjoyment the rest of us will have watching you work on her. 😀
