NATO Black with a drop or two of pale gray is probably your ticket

Which is all very nice, but how many drops of black, or for that matter, ml

I can do a single drop of black and stil have a darkish grey with two drops of pale grey

I think if I’d planned this build a bit better I’d probably just disregard the PE non stick and use some very coarse brush on primer with mask.

This was only ever supposed to be a sorbet between my next major build as I collect bits and pieces. One thing I do notice is how heavily invested people are in destroyers more than any other ship.

There were more of them than the bigger crafts ;)

Further to the advice CapnMac offers re deck numbering which is correct for USN vessels; the RN (and most Commonwealth Navies) use a different system of single digit designators (1-n) decks down from the weather deck (weather deck being 1 deck), and double digit  (01 - nn) above the weather deck for upper decks - 01 deck being the next up from the weather deck.  In this instance, as it is pre 1947, the 04 designation would align :)  Offered only to clarify for other classes /nationalities of vessels.

cheers

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
