HMS Leopard 1790 by Juergen - 50 gun ship - 1/64 - POB

Recommended Posts

Thanks very much Mark and Niklas.

And so does your Triton in the back of one of your pics!

Sometime Niklas but not for the moment ;) . The Triton is cleared away again.

I too am working on a model of the H.M.S. Leopard, although mine is to a much smaller scale and a solid hull. Still, working so intently from the same reference material I have fully absorbed the shape of her hull and the sweep of her lines and now know them intimately. The sense of dejavue one gets while looking at photos of someone else’s build of the same model one is also working on is striking.

I have a great respect to everyone who build ship at such small scales. That's not for me and my big finger.

A friend of my do it also and he built the Leopard many years ago. It must be a similar scale at your Leopard.

Thanks very much Alexander.

Slowly but constant. Here's a new update.

I added the Channel Wale and planks between the Main Wale and the Channel Wale.

Beautiful planking, Juergen.  The channel wales came out really well with the anchor stock planks and the row of hook scarf.

Much thanks for the kind comment Timmo.

It's going on with the build. I added two rails during the last days.

But I want to display how make the planks above (or under) the gunports at first.

First step is to mark the position where the plank must be wider

post-3439-0-70183900-1370731660_thumb.jpg

Then I saw the plank with the bandsaw

post-3439-0-49250300-1370731673_thumb.jpg

and sanded it

post-3439-0-75871500-1370731679_thumb.jpg

Thereafter it must be fitted to the other planks. I did that with a chissel. That's the easiest way to do it for me.

Here you can see the result.

Thanks very much to all for the kind comments

I have this book, but i do not have the courage to proceed with a scratch build log.

Try it and you'll see it's going well

Thank you so much for looking and the kind comment B.E.

Here's a little update. The planking include the rails at the starbord side are finished so far as possible at the moment.

The ornaments at the end of the rails (I don't no the right term) were uncharted waters for me. I decided to do the rail and ornament at one piece.

I made a simply stencil because it needs several of that ornaments.

post-3439-0-61617100-1371584656_thumb.jpg

The shape of the rail is done with drawing plate and the ornament with cutter and curving tools

here you see it at the model

I desided to close the spaces between the bulkheads at the port-side based on some trubble during the planking

That's looking so

I believe the planking will be much easier at this

Hi Ferit and John

I'm glad that you like it.

Thanks for the advice John. It's always a great help for me because it's often very hard to find the right english term
