Is anybody interested in a Discord Channel? I have searched the site and it seems like we do not have a VOIP running.  Discord is free, and all smart phones these days can use the app, so each of us can have our phone right there on the shop table with us.  It would be a great way for us to converse on ideas, discussions, and help. Especially for the group builds.

Just a thought....

Let me know, and I can start one, but I would like to see MSW open it so that it can use the site's name.

I’ve heard the phrase Discord Server before and have only the vaguest notion that it allows group participation in a conversation, or something like that? I feel strongly you should fully describe what this concept means and entails. Who knows? Maybe it could be a good resource. But if nobody understands what it is you won’t get any traction.

First paragraph from Wikipedia

Discord is a proprietary freeware VoIPapplication and digital distribution platform—designed initially for the video gamingcommunity—that specializes in text, image, video and audio communication between users in a chat channel. Discord runs on WindowsmacOSAndroidiOSLinux, and in web browsers. As of 21 July 2019, there are over 250 million unique users of the software.[

I’ve use this both for video gaming with groups up to 40 people as well as in my business/medical practice to hold meetings. I also know people use this for a free easy way to connect with distributed family and friends across the country. I routinely talk to people in Australia as well as Europe and all over the US. Voice quality is excellent andThe cost is minimal.

I should say the cost is very minimal for the host but all of the users are free to use

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
