Thank you Mark, I'd been sitting on it for 10 years before I started it. Made a few modifications, mainly relocating the eye bolts for the shrouds to the rail.

Your build is looking good!

I built this kit years ago.  I had a blast with it.  Unfortunately, it got put in storage for five years and didn’t survive.  I want to build La Reale again one of these days.

Building: 1:64 HMS Revenge (Victory Models plans)

1:64 Cat Esther (17th Century Dutch Merchant Ships)

On the building slip: 1:72 French Ironclad Magenta (original shipyard plans)

On hold: 1:98 Mantua HMS Victory (kit bash), 1:96 Shipyard HMS Mercury

Favorite finished builds:  1:60 Sampang Good Fortune (Amati plans), 1:200 Orel Ironclad Solferino, 1:72 Schooner Hannah (Hahn plans), 1:72 Privateer Prince de Neufchatel (Chapelle plans), Model Shipways Sultana, Heller La Reale, Encore USS Olympia

Goal: Become better than I was yesterday

Thank you GrandpaPhil, it's a pity it didn't survive. Work continues on the area I honestly do not know what to call it other then the starboard upper platform, as you can see I made some modifications to the panels.

Hi Frank,

Thank you for the complement, the scale is 1/75 and the overall length is approx 34".

The gold leaf is finished on the starboard panels and once I finish the port side I'll glue all these pieces together.

I finally have the fore super structure completed and secured into place, I also modified the anchor davit with a pulley.  Up next will be more work on the benches and railings.

Thank you Steve,

With the super structure completed I finished modifying the anchor davits, installing the ladders along with the remaining stern decorations. I used 24g brass wire for the ladder supports.

Thank you gentlemen for the complements, Patrick your Golden Hind is looking fantastic!! and I like your use of acrylics🤙. Frank the blue is a 3 step process...Tamiya XF-8 blue as a base followed by Tamiya XF-1 black wash and sealed with testors dulcoat.

I decided to ditch the plastic canopy outer supports in favor of 1.57mm brass rod, I also modified the the support post by relocating the support cradle aft and adding some scalloped carving to it, all of this is of course in the dry fitting stage.

Sorry for the late response, for this wood effect I used Tamiya desert yellow acrylic as a base followed by raw umber acrylic.

A small update regarding the main shroud chain plates etc, I flattened 0.72mm brass rod and bent to the correct profile, I used 21 link per inch chain for the chains, a total of 9 links and styrene rod for the toggles.

I had a few that were tight also, felt like something was going to break pulling them through. Since I couldn't find any sheed blocks to my liking I started fabricating my own out of styrene, the double blocks measure out approx 11mm and the single at 8mm. I did a mock up to check out the scale and looks good to my eye. Also made some modifications to the mast head along with making up the

crows nest, still undecided if I like it!

Good day,

Fantastic job You did!

I like it very much!...recently I saw some pictures where we could see construction of crows nest and some other derails... here it looks a little bit different than Your variant...as I understood there need to be opening on both sides in front of the nest?... platform will be secured to the mast top?

This is galeass but however rigging details could be similar to galera riging?

and some pictures of gallera model... I don' t know who is author of this model, but it made in very high level...may it could be usefull in Your building.?..

Thanks for the complements gentlemen. Kirill I do have those pictures of that model and the elevations of the La Royale are very helpful also, thank you!.

I installed the bande on the mast and wanted to check the space available between the molded extrusion on the mast and the mast head for the shrouds.

Using .80mm line I mocked up the shrouds and they fit nicely, the remaining space will be filled when they are served.

Good day Michael,

Do You plan to leave crows nest as it is? in this shape, strait from the kit?...

it looks too plastic somehow, like casting from something...don't You plan to make it scratch or made some modifications to the original kit shape?

as seems to me ,there should be some specific, well recognized  shape of this part ... repeated on almost all contemporary drawings, but it is far not like kit shape🤔

shrouds loops on the mast top///seems space which You left is too short... compare to the museum model where space length sacrificed for placing shroud loops is equal to the length of mast top ,where tie sheaves fitted ...

looks at the drwng of royal galeasse and museum galley model arrangements in this part...🤔

Foe me  personal, still not  understandable  how this shrouds loops should be arranged on the galley mast top when we need to make them on the model???

it is quite different from lets say "conventional" shrouds  loops of the square rigged ships of this period ...it is still remains kind of enigma for me!

I try to study schebeck arrangements .. but is still too complicated , how to manage them in such specific way?

Should galley"s shrouds loops to be secured on the mast top in the same way as it is made on schenbec ? in general, for me at least...riging of the galley and schebec fore and aft rigging looks almost identical...? or not?

there is scan from Le Requin rigging ...

Kirill I appreciate your constructive criticism on the crows nest, Heller did not supply one in the kit I made this one using brass wire as a prototype,( never really liked it) just to get a visual. This picture shows my mock up of binding the shrouds with snaking a line in between, now if I can pull this off when it comes time to do it for real I'll be shocked!!. A revised crows nest is in the works and thank you again Kirill for your input and pictures and anymore you can provide would surely help as all I have to go by are the Hellers instructions.

I started this about 3 months ago after finishing my Victory of 1765, while not up to par with some of the wooden builds I've seen it looks okay

Here's a current picture and the link to my album.

I do like your build - the hole golden panels may get a bit more crisp by adding a carefull drop of brown or sepia ink into it's "valleys" pronouncing the  deep and shadows, you ever thought about this?

OH...Yes... I think the same , but didn't ask question... I still have doubt regarding my own build guilding, I was critisised by our coleques ...one time I used fake golden leaves as is it,instead of golden enamel paint......but now I think I need to do sometning with this excessive shining ,as Heinrich advised🤔

Otherwise it is shining too much to be realistic, like a gipsy gold :)))..as I understood, most of this real "golden" color used on models nowadays, in reality ,on the ship real decorations of that time, were just yellow ochre colors...and in only rear cases it could be real gilding, applied on small areas?

But this are just my common thoughts ,pls consider it like this... on the model, proposals given by Heinrich sounds very resonable ,it will really "pronouncing the  deep and shadows" consering all sspects of scale visualisathion...

Was it painted?

Not gilded?  I mean, it is not semi gilding?

Looks very good!

I've found interesting book about SUN KING galley decoration\could  read it with google translator

I will consider the recommendations gentlemen, thank you. It is gilded/gold leafed and that book looks like a good read/info Kirill thank youi.

I spent some time building a new crows nest out of brass and styrene and looks much better then my first attempt.
