Decided to make my own bucket. Glued small wood strips around suitable dowel then drilled most of dowel out of center. Prototype bucket would be 10 inches in diameter. 014B7EDB-BF3C-464B-B29C-1828B063B988.thumb.jpeg.27a2d1cd6592c3d89260b2cabc7961d2.jpeg

I want to thank everyone who looked in on this build as your comments and encouragements were greatly appreciated.  I want to especially thank Arthur for his help as we both moved through this build.  I also appreciate Chuck letting me use his friezes to replace the photo etches.  This has been a fun and valuable learning journey for my first POB build.  I want to encourage other beginners to try this boat or Chuck's Longboat as you can finish them in reasonable time and learn much. 😎

Paul, your build came out great! I really enjoyed seeing the alterations and detailing you did. I have always considered kits to be jumping off points for extra detailing. Keep up the great work and the next thing you know you will be scratch building.

I have one question Paul, I noticed that you had 3 swivel guns mounted on your boat along with the cannon. Where did you order the additional swivel from, MS ?

Thanks for responding Paul, I searched all over, many swivel guns, none the same as I need! Wrote to MS jgarcia, for another, also when I got around to forming the cap rail, found they had included 1/32" sheet not 3/32" so it will not work. Don't really have a hobby store close by either so in my email to MS I also requested the proper sheet of 3/32. They are really good with fixing problems.

Yes they are. I have the Kate Cory which had a badly milled solid hull which they just replaced. This probably will be my next build especially since it was given to me by my son-in-law. 😎

Paul, great job!  Following you and Arthur is a highly educational experience.  I am not planning to make as many modifications as you made but your discussions of the basic build are most helpful. I continue to progress with my build and log.  One step forward, one step back... However, you guys have certainly worked to reduce my number of necessary backward steps.

Tiger, I’m glad others might be able to be of some value from our work. In the same way, I hope to benefit from others for my next build. That’s the real beauty of MSW logs - what goes around, comes around. I hope your build goes smoothly. 😎

Paul your model looks great! Impressive how quickly your build came together and how you personalized the build from the stock kit. I'm expecting you will have the Kate Cory half done by the time I get my own longboat finished up, and I'm looking forward to following along with that build as well.

Arthur, I have decided to put the KC on hold for now as I have decided to do the New Bedford Whaleboat.  This is a POF build and should be fun and not take two plus years to complete.  I am leaning toward projects which can be completed in a reasonable amount of time so that frustration with teadium does not set in.  A near example of this was rigging the Cutty Sark model that I had from my younger years.  It took a long time and involved a lot of repetitive actions.  I wanted to finish it and bore through it all.  A POF build should offer some new challenges and be instructive.
