European builders: heat problems?

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I live in the part of France called la Bretagne. Have a look at the picture below. It's the green part in the west. Many people think it rains a lot chez nous which is not true. It only rains on Parisiens. This map shows which parts of France are on yellow, orange or even red alert because of the abnormally high temperatures. In spite of living in a green region I can't get myself to work on my ships (or stack the estimated 5 m3 firewood that's still lying in front of my garage). My shipyard is upstairs, under a minimally insulated roof orientated to the south. I's about 35°!

So I am passing my time underneath a tree enjoying the ever present sea breeze and an ice cold pastis.

How are you coping? The UK seems very hot, so are Holland, Belgium, Germany, Spain etc... Are you guys building?

Hello Pieter,

I just returned from a pleasant trip through Normandy and it was hot.

Today is due to be the hottest day ever recorded in the UK. It is currently 34 degrees in my part of Sussex and it is not even noon yet. There are Greek islands cooler than that.

I will not be lifting anything heavier than a cool drink today.

Regards, Bruce

About the NRG

If you enjoy building ship models that are historically accurate as well as beautiful, then The Nautical Research Guild (NRG) is just right for you.

The Guild is a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to “Advance Ship Modeling Through Research”. We provide support to our members in their efforts to raise the quality of their model ships.

The Nautical Research Guild has published our world-renowned quarterly magazine, The Nautical Research Journal, since 1955. The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal. The NRG also publishes plan sets, books and compilations of back issues of the Journal and the former Ships in Scale and Model Ship Builder magazines.
