HMS Winchelsea 1764 by CaptMorgan (Steve) - FINISHED - 1:48

That looks really good.  You should be very happy with that result.  The color looks fantastic.  If you just do a little light sanding before you use the glue it will be fine.  I havent had any issues.  You should absolutely apply the WOP though.  At least two coats sanding between coats.  Wipe off the excess and buff the second coat so it doesnt get glossy.

I hope this project has been worthwhile so far and you are enjoying it.   Based on your model I would say that you are!!!

Looking really good Steve. I do as Chuck suggested and haven't had any issues gluing.

Chapter 2 is now complete.

I broke/ruined my fair share of planks but I think everything turned out pretty good.  I preferred a little darker seams so I ran a pencil on both sides of the planks.

Below are a few photos to show where we are currently.

Now it is time for a small break and do a review of Chapter 3.  It will be a nice change of pace from the planking for a while....

I hope everyone out there is doing good and dealing with this virus.  These are indeed strange times but we will get thru it.....

Till next time.....     😎

That looks excellent.  It is shaping up to be an excellent model.

Also check out the few other logs that have started chapter 3.   There are some really good discussions in those that will certainly help you out.

That planking is looking really good! I hear you on the broken/messed up planks.

I've probably have enough in the bin to plank a small cutter!

How is chapter 3 coming along?

I'm still here and slowly chugging along.  I guess I have been slow to post anything.  I didn't realize how long it had been since my last post but here a few pics of where things stand as to today.

I guess the only thing I'm having an issue with are the little pieces that go above the roof and also the upper and lower parts of the pillars.  No matter how many I make I don't seem to find any I like, let alone try to make 12 of them that look similar.  I'll get it sooner or later...

Hope things are good in your part of the world.

Also everyone else out there....   Be safe....

Steve, I struggled with this problem until the eureka moment arrived.  Instead of trying to make 12 the same I realised that they are all different.

I then used the template that Chuck provides and lined up my moulding with each template  (one at a time) and carefully cut the angles.

whilst my skill level is not up there with the likes of Chuck they are a lot better than all My other (too many to count) attempts.  Hope this helps.

Your  work on the hull is outstanding.

Yes it looks very good indeed.  Well done.  And yes all of those tiny uprights for the fancy rail are different.   They angle aft and that changes with each one.

Hello everyone.

It's been a while since my last update so I thought I would take a little time to get that done.  I finally got those window pillars done of the sides.  They didn't turn out to bad - at least for me.  I'm happy with them.

I kind of like the blue windows.  LOL   I don't think I will keep them...

I still have to finish up the pillars on the rear to finish that up.

Then the rails on the roof to finish up Chapter 3.

Till next time.....     😎

Just a quick update to mark the end of Chapter 3.

I admit I was not looking forward to doing the pillars and the tops & bottoms to them, along with the roof rails, but everything turned out OK -- at least for me.

So how is it going with your winnie?

I'm still here -- still making progress but at a pretty slow pace. We bought a new house so the shop has taken a back seat for a while.

I had not noticed how long it had been since I posted anything.  The picture shows where we are today.  Nothing is glued to the deck yet and still have a lot of fitting to do with the margin planks.  We're getting there.  1421547707_Winnie1.jpg.f7594efa51ce99c9c0954344560e38d4.jpg

Congratulations on your new house Steve! Sometimes you also have to follow the priority list of your admiral. At least I have to with mine.

Your Winnie is becoming more and more beautiful and I can only hope to reach the same result finally.

Keep up the good work!

That is looking nice and tidy.   Very nice progress.  You have most of the repetitive stuff all done except for the cannons.   It should go much easier from this point on.

I have finally finished up Chapter 4 so I thought it was time for an update.  There was nothing to unusual for me but I did follow Mikes lead and kept all of the deck fittings removable.  This really helped with the sanding & finishing of the deck.

So now it's time to clean up the shop & do some review of Chapter 5.  A whole new set of challenges......

Hopefully I'm am done making so much sawdust for a while.

Beautiful work, Steve!  I’m going to do the same - leaving the coamings, partners, etc. loose until the deck is done.  I’m certain I would damage them otherwise.
