Hi you fellow shipmates,

can any one help me for in the future of possibly attaching brass pedestals to a model ship?                                                                            It is something I have always wanted to do in the future so that in the future I could possibly display the model on perfect display in a glass cabinet.                                                                                                                                                                                                                Sorry for asking but I thought it would be a subject that should be bought up as there are probably not only myself that doesn't know, but other builders. Any help would be most kind.

H Kier,

if you can make use of it, here is how I usualy do it. In this case the model, my Chebec Eagle of Algier,  is foreseen to display in a glass cabinet when completed.

When using brass pedestals I look out for some hollow ones, for instance made from old candle holders. The connecting part is a threaded spindel, which is anchored in the ship (interlocked in a suitable threaded conterpart fastened above the keel.

The bottom side of the spindel goes through the pedestal and through the stand plate, and gets a washer and a nut as a counter part.

Please refer to the pics, trust they ars self explaining....

Cheers , Nils

Well I must say Nils and spyglass,                                                                                                                                                             you both have made things so much clearer too me, I new there was a certain way of doing it but didn't know how.               Since being a member a good few years now I thought they were fixed in a totally different way🙄                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            Many thanks ,  kier  🙂

I now realize that Druxey,                                                                                                                                                                     that's one thing that will not be forgotten. ( already imprinted in my head)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Cheers  Kier

The pages of the Journal are full of articles by accomplished ship modelers who show you how they create those exquisite details on their models, and by maritime historians who show you the correct details to build. The Journal is available in both print and digital editions. Go to the NRG web site (www.thenrg.org) to download a complimentary digital copy of the Journal.
