HMS Pickle by mtbediz - FINISHED - 1:40

Recommended Posts

Great start mtbediz. The bulkheads and filler look solid as a rock. Can you tell us if you are using existing plans or your own drawing? And the scale?

Will you take out the mails of the planks afterwards?

No, I will not take out the nails. Normally lower hull of Pickle (below water line) is covered with copper but i am planning to cover with mahogany veneer. Upper hull will be painted. So, nails will not be visible.

Really coming along nicely - like the lots of drop planks !

Are you sure your nails contain no iron if you are leaving them - othererwise may get some rust later in life.

I had a nasty surprise a while ago with some nails that I discovered were only brass coloured steel and th moisture from the next layer adhesive did them no good at all

Thank you. I have learnt one more thing, i didn't know this. I am not sure if they are pure brass. I will never leave nails on my next builds anymore.

  • 2 weeks later...

I made the model carrier and I have started deck planking. I am using 1,5x6 mm of walnut strips on the deck. Because of long distance; I added extra plank supports between bulkheads 4-5, 5-6 and 6-7.
