I don't think I have the skills for photo etching, plus all the equipment involved is a stretch for a hobby builder. While I'm working on the list of tools I might need, I decided take a hard look around the shop, amazing gee I have a lot of Dremel stuff , so I made the attempt to cut and grind a few pieces. I might just opening myself up for some laughter here, but if you don't try do don't learn So my attempt at making the hold down brackets for the engine room cover, it took me a couple of days. the verdict is still out if I start over again. Ok back to wood and comfort t zone. carved the towing bit. On PTs 103 -108 the towing bit was wood, white oak . Wasn’t going there, so I scratch built something that looks a little better than shaped block wood. Brass for the torpedo tubes and other deck fittings, nowhere near ready to start the tubes, but wanted to cut them so I could scale other items on the deck. With done I will attempt to again make the engine room hold down brackets. It took 5 days of trial & error, at times it was a real pain to get the right look, keeping something close to scale. Overall, I’m happy with them, which in the end is all that matters. The horn is small, and I was working from pictures. So I reworked the starboard ammo locker, the bridge spotlight locker, and the bridge starboard door. Scratch build Bridge search light, it took some work to get it right, only concern is the turn knob might be a little big ?? if so minor fix . One of my suppliers is from Spain which is closed for shipping, I’m still able is get deliveries from Cornwall boats for now, will stock up from them and work from back stock for the rest. Started laying out the control panel area, the test fit went well, Made the throttle control box, it’s still rough, needs some smoothing but its close. Given the fragile scale here I will soak in water then heat bend them in place. Without the equipment or really the skills to Photo Etch, tiny parts like this have to made which mean no 2 are exactly alike, but close. I do plan to learn how to make casting to help with the duplication process . Also with time to reflect on my work, I have made upgrades/improvements to most areas of the superstructure.
