Here's the update I promised yesterday... did a bit with the standing rigging and for most I used a serving technique developed by the late Hubert Sicard on his website Wooden Ship Modeling for Dummies, that is the  use of zip sizings.  I'll snopsize here but would urge those interested to head to the Dummies site, a wealth of info and building tips there.

IMG_0495.JPG.6bfff5a594e48fe12fc385355a802ed5.JPG

here's a shot of the sizings before trimming, they are coils of line soaked in ca,

first step is to find a form the size you want your finished sizing to be, I use a  drill bit, then apply a liberal coat of bees wax and polish it up.  You then coil your rigging line around it, the one shown below is 10 wraps

IMG_0496.JPG.4caa767afa445af23743ab49d80d080d.JPG

apply the ca

IMG_0497.JPG.e1541e2a1c75533cc372fbaa56c69709.JPG

let it dry, then find something to push it off the form with cause even with the wax the ca will stick to it, I just close my tweezers over the top of it and push on the table top

IMG_0498.JPG.51ce574c1558e05b4200db742fa04c7f.JPG

and here's the coil ready for trimming

IMG_0500.JPG.bd746258ef0ce0d9de24eb95ceea8ce8.JPG

be sure to re-wax the form (drill bit) before making another one, to use them you just slip them over the line you want to represent a serving on.

here are is a shot of one on a back stay of Jumbos froward mast

IMG_0501.JPG.d5172bd9afc1c94f1d77a9d28ea3efc0.JPG

it's a technique I find useful, I hope you will as well

IMG_0511.JPG.3607974c28a22277d3ec1ac028979169.JPG

this is the same technique I use for cleats in my Hannah build, link is in my signature

played around with rigging the anchor and catheads...these aren't permanent yet and will most likely be redone

and started prepping the fore yards

and that's about it for today...more rigging fun tomorrow, thanks for hitting the like button and leaving comments

Well after a couple days the running rigging is complete...

I had included blocks to the yards for the clue lines...as i'm not planning to add sails they needed some attention so I made line stops from small dowels and attached them with a cow hitch

here you can see them in the blocks

Thanks Denis...ya she went up quick once all the funky wood was in the rear view, you're adding a lot more detail and changes then I chose to, Jumbo is pretty close to box shock.

you got that right........I've abandoned the original wood on the second hull.   the darn stuff is simply too stiff!  what made it worse though,  was that I planked up the transom too early.  so....the bulwarks are Obechi,  three strakes are the original wood,  and I'm gonna finish with the Obechi.   I may elect to use the original wood when I get near the bottom......but I'll wait and see if I feel like being annoyed again  :D   this kit does build to a nice looking model.....but I feel that there are quite a few rough spots with it that can be fine tuned.

she's look'in good though.......you've got a good color scheme going on her,  and considering the instructions,  fleshed out well.  it is funny though....here I was shagg'in ya outta bed to built it...even build'in one with ya.......and your the one finishing first!  hey....what can I say.....it was like that with the half Moon too.  here I was going by pictures doing all that crazy decal stuff,  and there you were finishing her by the time I was done.

I guess if there was a project to be done in pairs.......I'd want to be paired up with you :)   but you gotta slow down though......I'm not as young as I used to be :D   at 63 I like to smell my coffee  ;)

I must say for all trouble early on I think this turned out to be a fairly good looking model, .  I'm happy with the overall look and glad I decided to change the rigging, both the style and the dimensions.  Though I will say I don't think I'll be looking for any more 50+ year old kits anytime soon!

I want to thank all of you who have followed along and taken the time to hit the like button and comment.  A special thanks to Popeye for joining me in a dual build, was fun and I hope you all enjoyed it as much as me, and also for poking me to get the build started in the first place, thanks my friend.  This will be it for me for a while, RV season is starting up and the road calls.

I'm glad I didn't take out a bet early on as to who would finish first! I think you may have set a new record.

petrified...........it might have been powder!  :D    I'll bet all the plywood would have already delaminated.   you did a superb job though.........this is not the easiest kit to work with ;)   I can attest to that two fold!  I haven't started the second log yet........without getting into specifics.....I've run into the second snag with planking....not as big as the first snag {part of that broke off :D }.   I'm waiting to see if I have a hull to work with first,  before I start it.  chances are,  I will..........but if not,  I'll keep the pyre stoked just in case ;)
