I'm now thinking something to ford a stream or a moat.  I don't think would have been effective being used as shields against firearms  which was tried around that same  time.  I'll have to find the link.....

Hi all,   thanks for all the guesses  - I should have more clear what they are  -  they are  Two wooden farm kitchen tables  with Four Wooden benches,  The 2nd KGL  found them in the Kitchen  dragged them out and out them put them on the inside wall  close to the orchard  corner  to  get some hight for firing as  @Edwardkenway  said  from the loopholes or over the wall.

Your farm table closely resemble what we here in The  Colonies call a "picnic table", which are in just about every public park/beach/playground area here. And in some private backyards. 5066b7e2-4ed3-4ce6-958e-cebb04fc4f40.jpeg.thumb.jpg.2847dffb1e322afdde19801bd3cc91ba.jpg

This is a French farm kitchen 19th century table  similar to what I  have  - mine are seperate tables  and benches.

Not my pic.

My Admiral would kill for a table like that ! 😃🤪  Beautiful table

I think most admirals would kill for one.   On the other hand, I'd be worried about standing on it as it would be somewhat unstable which be sure to bring out the wrath.

If it is an original craftsman built timber slab table from the 16-1800's I wouldn't worry about parking my semi on it... any built after that, I wouldn't take the chance..... Why, mechanical fasteners.... They allow you to build lighter with less select, thinner wood and hence a lot weaker...

That table in the pic, has enough wood in it to make four modern tables.... Hence more profit for the table maker...

I guess that's why they call them "trestle table",  you could drive a train over them or a team of oxen pulling a hay wagon.

Evening all,   right  the table is in the box  - will be  tackled after the figures are finished  - talking of figures  more detail painting,  I have been doing basically the same as the others Buff and Black coloured  belts  and  Buff coloured haversacks, also I have painted on the shoulder  ruffs with a few loaseded layers of Black paint.
