Old Collingwood Posted May 8, 2021 Author Share #901 Posted May 8, 2021 Evening all, a bit more progress tonight - I have been carrying on with the detail painting on 2nd and 1st KGL - takes so long even to work on Five at a time - the Sixth one is having some time out for swearing, lol - have also done a bit of shading on the faces - not quite as good as the Perry ones as the moulded details are not quite as crisp. Old Collingwood Posted May 12, 2021 Author Share #908 Posted May 12, 2021 Evening all, over the last couple of days I have been re - working some of my figures - starting with the French 54/55th Ligne regiment as firstly I wasn't happy with the tunic shade of Blue, I mixed quite a bit of Flat Black into my dark Prussian Blue and got a slightly darker shade, I the set about re painting the Blue areas, to day I have been concentrating improving some of the details including giving the faces Two/Three levels of shading and colour variations - from slightly rose'y cheeks to highlight areas on the noses and over the cheek bones - same with the hands, I think they look better - they are more tidy now than when I first painted them - guess that's what happens to us - we all improve the more practice we have. Yes mate, they were the skirmish unit sent in along side the 54/55th eme ligne regiments, Ney decided to use them alongside the normal regiments to exert extra pressure on the farm. OC. Old Collingwood Posted May 17, 2021 Author Share #915 Posted May 17, 2021 (edited) Hi there folks, I have still been at it with the latest group of figures - I give myself about Three hours at the benche to save my eyes from suffering from using a powerful pair of optovisors, in this time last night I concentrated on painting the Eight faces - I start off with a pale pinky/sand colour, this has two coats, then I brush over my Citadel Agrex Earthshade Wash - this brings out the details like the eye sockets that would not be seen without it, after I use a more pink version of paint to bring out the cheek side details followed up with more of the pinky/sand colour on the nose/chin/cheeks, its a hit and miss job with several re-go's and touch ups till I am happy with the result. After doing these I decided to touch up my Three Cuirassiers as I felt I could sharpen them a bit - same as above with better face details and I gave the horses some Black/White details followed up with an all over wash with my Earthshade (only on the horses mind) this brings out the details and gives the horses a slight sheen as they would have been. I did not have time to take any pics but I will later today. OC. No mate I had to look elsewhere - its not glass this time instead I have gone with 5mm Acrylic Perspex its supposed to have a Ten year guarantee, and a lot lighter and less risky than glass.
