Thank you Edward, yep  they are the last Three  I have primed before my Rattle can ran out  (Thats why the Brits have been getting a normal flat coat of Acrylic paint to act as a primer  - but dont think it did the job)   I have been able to  raid the penny jar - so to speak  and order some Vallejo  surface primer - should be here in a few days, so I will be able to get back on more British.

Also  I am in debate with the company were I got that Mr Hobby/Gunze/Sangyo   Flat topcoat,   they are trying to say not all Acrylics are the same  and I should have used it with thier own range of paints.

I know  - told them the damage it had caused  (my fault apparently)😲

They are all going to say that, their paint works best with their primers and thinners.... You can expect that from each and every one of them....

Understand something, when it comes to paint there are two kinds of paint. (and true lacquer isn't one of them, it's poisonous, highly toxic and very flammable to start with) There are enamels (even the model paint called lacquers are really enamel paints) and acrylics. There are two basic types of acrylics water based and non-water based acrylics... So to a certain extent not all acrylics are equal... that is apart from the obvious branding issues... so that part of his argument is at least partly correct.....

Roger

That's always the excuse my friend.... yes there are only a few manufacturers who make most of the paints in the country.... and that's not just in the US.... Alkyd enamels are what most model paints not called acrylic are, exactly the same as auto paint.... and you might be surprised in that they usually have little to no smell..... it's when applying them with a spray gun where they acquire the smell from the vast quantities of thinners needed to get them to shoot correctly.... and spray cans carry a lot of thinner to allow them to spray.....

My opinion on acrylics and their use as model paints was the idea that they could sell the hobby to mothers if there was a paint material that didn't threaten to destroy everything the klutzy kid messed up with them being sloppy...... The much advertised water clean up and one hell of a marketing campaign as a safety measure. Which btw was completely false advertising...

It takes twice as much work to put on a good looking acrylic finish than an enamel one...... (and almost requires an airbrush which is a luxury in this hobby imho)

But most of us in the hobby go with what got us here, and for me that was enamels. I tried acrylics once, and immediately discarded them.....

But then I guess it was one way to try and get more money from the hobby, thru their parents fear....

Bookkeepers have been trying to destroy this hobby for generations... Their excuses notwithstanding....

No it wouldn't, except they would be admitting that they do not make the PUUURRRFECT paint.... THAT is something they are unwilling to do..... Their paints are perfect as long as you buy everything from them and do it their way.........

A good marketing ploy would be to send OC a bottle of their paint to try along with their topcoat.  The cost, not price, of a bottle of acrylic model paint must be pennies, or pence.

Evening all, happy bunny today  - my Vallejo Surface primer  arrived, so I could start work on more figures in my stash,   I have been collecting British  Light  Infantry in Two Up sprues, they only have Two poses  but I can mix in some different arms for different positions.  I will also use them for the KGL  2nd Light  unit  as they used basically  the same uniform as the 95th Rifles, only difference  Grey trousers for the KGL  and Green for the 95th.

I have come up with a  "cunning plan"   I will leave the arms off till I have painted the  torso,  as this will make painting the uniform details/buttons  etc  easier, the arms can be put on and touched up then without fear of a messy paint job like I have done on these a few times (shhhh  - I hide it - dont tell anyone).

So again no pics as I am waiting to put more paint down first,   (oh  I have paited the KGL 5th Light plumes dark Green - so they are now historically correct)

I worked on another one of my little plans last night  - it represents the ground plan for my dio - the  farm as I will be able to display it with a false wall at the back,   orchard with a few trees to the left  and the  veg garden to the right, with the gravel road along the front.

Thank you kindly Denis,  I have to keep reminding myself not to be so hard a "Worst critic"   as the scale is still quite small  - one of thier  belts is not much wider than a very fine brush,  and those buttons on the KGL 2nd  - well lets just say I went cock  eyed trying to paint them🤕.
