Everybody is talking about Frank Herbert lately;  I did read Dune in the early 80's (had a paperback copy) and I did see the movie.  I remember very little about the book, and I was disappointed with the movie.  Would those in the know recommend rereading/rewatching?

I was also supprised that nibbing was much easier than I expected, and that there is some extra fun in nibbing

The entire trilogy is an excellent read.  The the rest of the series works good to fill out the history and the principals and beliefs of the trilogy

I agree David, it is a joy to read ( six times, as me did), but if you ask for something more, you stay confused after all six reads

Just to mention

"Song Of Ice and Fire" ... I have read them all more than six times ... long ago before "Game of Thrones" was produced on HBO ... and can not wait any more for "Winds Of Winter" ... Lazy lazy lazy R.R.Martin drive me crazy

Also read whole R.Jordan`s  "A Wheel of time" serial couple of times, but not so good as SOIAF

So another favourite quote

"...you know nothing Jon Snow ..."

Nenad,

I just want to tell you that when I first looked at the top picture on post 841 and thought I was looking at one of your pictures of the actual Cutty Sark.
Your lighting and photography combined with your modelling skills got together to make the stanchions and the rivet heads behind them look 'real'

just remember to walk without rhythm so you don't attract the worm...

Thx, you are all very kind, but I know my frontiers and limitations, and where is lack of patience or lack of skill

Anyway, I think that Bob's stanchions look more realistic and more in scale. Also his inner bulwarks are more clear and pedantic with more correct rivet strips

Also see Luca's log, it promise very much

When experimenting, I rather brin
g decisions  by application of the criteria if r
esult look better, than the result is accurate and in scale. Of course, scale is important, but some nice details can be too small, rather invisible and lost for eyes in accurate scale. My stanchion wire is little thicker, rivets are almost doubled, rivet strips thick too, rings are too large, and when I painted them white in whole white base in experiment I did, and saw what a nice shadow them show, decision was made, because on that way them are "bolded/underlined" and attract attention. In my opinion, the truth is somewhere in the middle of corect work to scale, and aesthetic view. Depends what ambitions you have with your model, and that is personal thing

I am thinking about similar approach when nail holders come to line, but we ll see.....

Most important is that we all have a fun

PS

I hear Her crying for me, I did not visit her today.

Again half of hour I try to recharge myself in bed after work in office, somehow it turns to 3 hours of deep hibernation. To me it is enough 20-30 min of naping on the couch in living room, without blanking covering, listening TV and news with one ear and watching it with one eye half closed, and after that I am bright new. And when, as today, Admiral put blanket over me, it is just the same as somebody cover me with mountine full of dreams,  and I dive deep  in wonderland and can not exit. I layed about 16:15, didnt hear clock alarm at 16:45, wake up at 19:00 and can not rejoin my head with rest of my body until 21:00

Nenad,

I like that. "Not bad, but it can be better. On the next model" I think there comes a time, in the build of each of our models, that we have rebuilt something 2-3-4-40 times, and realize that the return on time invested in that particular model just isn't there. Why should I spend 3 years working on the rigging of my model when the hull (to me) looks awful?

The important thing is that we have fun in this hobby. Hopefully we learn from our previous models (and mistakes) and the next model comes out better than the previous one, and so on.

And, your model is looking better every day.

Thanks,

Harvey

Hello ,I agree those words are awesome, thinking out  aloud to my Admiral "there's the making's of a book here"  called "The Model Ship Builder, from Serbia", A book of humor positive thoughts ,full of character, research, frustrations, alternative methods, tools and materals used to achieve the aim, to build a nice looking model for oneself and others to admire.Surely  a best seller indeed. Thanks for being so helpful and interesting on your journey.Edwin.

Thank you friends for your kind and supporting words, I really need them in relatively hard times on job.

This is not the wailing, and I do not need any "sorry" words, only want to explain reasons why my sense for humor sometimes fails. It seems that only, for me on unacceptable way, by corruption and political connections you can do something in this f... country. It is wide spread, it spreads like cancer, but this is generally sick and abnormal that one who make his own business on market 30  years, pay taxes and full state budget, live with much more problems and difficulties than somebody who work as a petty officer in some government and semi-government institution, get his wages from that same state budget, and work effectively 1-2 hours a day, getting his job only because he is a member of political party. Nice example - one of the state company, which repair streets have 1500 employees and 45 engaged lawyers in internal law service, getting their wages from budget. 30 years I work on company law field, and know very well that me, and eventually 1-2 experienced lawyers more, can fully cover whole work they have to do. In this country - who cares about that. If you go there and eventually suggest same solution for general manager, do you know what will be answer ?  "Yes, we can cooperate, I really need somebody with your knowledge and experience, I am not satisfied with my stuff, they do not know anything, but I can not fire anybody, and, of course, 10-20-30% of your bills are mine". That 10-20-30% is all that is important. Unbelievably. Sometimes I wish never to exit from upper mentioned blanket

Happy news. Princess (my daughter) pass her last exam with 10,  only 4 to go, and her medical study will be over when she finish her clinical practice! Doctor in house ! WOW. Hothead himself, week from now has his last exam, after that have only to defend the thesis, and he will got his bachelor degree of architecture

This counts !!!

My log is wide open, and you can use everything you want from it everywhere you want

Writing a book ... hmm ... I didnt think on that way till now ... maybe one day when this journey finished ... I think that in Serbia nobody will be interested to bye such a book. In other countries, maybe, but my English .... ha ha ha. Just remember mish-mash in one of the earlier post with wrong usage of word "bear" instead "beer" ...  Thanks to music and internet, I read english without dictionary, understand spoken lanquage almost all, write in english with great help of sometime stuppid Google translate, and speak english as a Tarzan`s ape. People  fall down under the table laughing when listening me speaking english by phone. This is not joke, this is true ! Some years ago I was on business meeting with some domestic business man and investor from east germany. My client speaks little german, little english and little russian, I "speak" english, and investor speak german, little russian and little english. At the end they ask me kindly not to speak in english, so I speak on serbian, my client translate to russian english or german, investor speak on german, russian and english, and my client translate to serbian. That was comedy.

Lets come back to "terrific" planking issue. I hope this weekend to finish all decks. We`ll see what life and Admiral plan for next 2-3 days to spice my life. Grass cutting is somewhere, I am quite sure. Car washing also. My thoughts are already focused to next steps - coopering or pin-rails. Also thinking about Her stand ( temporary or final), I suppose time for this comes soon

Spice flows, isn`t it ?

See you around, folks

nice work on the deck Nenad.  I think that modelwork is a great antidote for politics, take one hour of modelwork each day to overcome the effects on ones mind.

Michael, I usualy take two to three hours almost every day. Thats my sedative.

But, there are days when you are just  not master of your time, rather somebody`s puppet on strings, and dance as music plays even you do not like it or do not how to dance.

Speaking of dancing ... I was born with "two left legs", and as natural misfit for dancing of every kind. Playing footbal ... do not know what to do with legs. Basketball ... can hit four in line standing, but when must run with  ball, ...  comedy. I do not know how I learned Aikido anyway. Swiming, ok. But was born with some kind of goldeen hands ( for almost everything exept water pipes - always make flood, and in two occasions I used to sink floors below ) and know to fix almost everything in house. My friend joked me that I am missed and lost enginier ...

Come home lately (emergency call from one of my clients about possible strike of his workers on monday) and rather watch TV than go down.

As I said, who is master of my life ? This evening, my master is Suleiman the Magnificent

Nenad,

I think most of us have been there to some degree.  It's not a perfect world, far from it.  But if modeling gives us the pleasure and focus to put the day behind us, who cares?  It's a good thing and the spice flows. Mow the lawn, wash the car, and spend some time with Admiral.  Her Majesty will be patient.
