Thank you, dear friends, this was only experiment. Having seen what I have to do, started to make bottom panels. Panel is made from veneer 1mm thick, glued on regular veneer. Rounded batten 1x1mm was "pulled out" from squared batten 2x2mm. Square batten stays 2mm, later will be fitted to existing white batten on hull

One almost ready for next step

Rough works done. Next - fine trimming and positioning

Pointed details: on upper panel, outside moldings are more narrow than rounded molding on the bottom of lower panel

In my scale, this is about 0,5 mm and I can not make it more narrow. I use for it hardest wood I have - walnut strips 1x1 mm, and careful sanding, sanding, sanding until I reach 1/2 mm

Think I got them in scale (ok, near scale)

Also there is a little difference between C-plans, where both panels are equal length, and present look of CS where upper panel is little longer, and has rounded rear edge

It seems that working on gold ornaments and letters will be some kind of horror, because I have less space than on stern, and surface for ornaments is only 4-5mm wide

Aw, the sweet smell of "do over".

Nenad, you are working on the same areas that I need to work. All the comments are rapidly changing the sequence in which I will do work. I think I should redo part of the bowsprit as built according to the kit. It is only glued to the deck. I wonder whether to drill a hole into the deck for the bowsprit, or glue with tiny screw through bowsprit into deck.

As always, your comments and continuous search for a better way to create an item provoke me to better things.

I stolled some time from myself after full day of office job, to run some tests about this little "gold tinny star on blue rounded surface". Circle has 4mm diameter, and this is really little beast. Carving with thinnest and sharpest tool did not give me relief effect I expected on that scale. It seems that I have to glue there something really small and tinny.

Analyzing photos, I noticed that main look of gold ornament on lower panel has quite different visual structure than gold ornament on stern, which leads me to different way of making this. For now, I am thinking about clay with little side cuts ..
More tests in front

Speaking about this panel, on some photos, longitudinal rails are gold, and on some - white ???

Upper panel has/will have it's own story, considering very thin gold molding that surrounds letters and form square figures left and right

It will be more easy to work in 1:50 scale than this approx. 1:100, but I think that Admiral could not be happy with model of CS 2m long and more than 1,5 m high in adequate glass cage in our living room

Can you imagine 2m long model in living room 4,5 x 5,5m ? That would be something !

Hi Nenad,

the ship is looking great.  The bow and stern decorations have been re=carved numerous times if you look through the photos.  I've come across three different stern carvings.  a photo from 1954 has her stern completely different than today and the photos of her with the temporary rudder , but consistent with a model from 1868.  In some photos it looks like her gold is white.  I've also seen four different versions of the stars on her trail board.  I think that I read somewhere that she has had 4 figureheads, although the last three all look the same and still exists, while the original is lost.  The original was supposed to be a beautiful figure carved by a famous marine artists.  Her trail board and stern had topless witches originally, but if I remember correctly was changed before launch.

Keep up the great work!!

marc

Check that stern out!

Thank you Marc.

Yellow or white railing around lower front panel - pure aesthetic issue. I decided long ago to try to copy Her today look, but just thinking - which option will look better both rails gold, both white, upper white down gold ... anyway matter of individual taste and feeling. Option with one white and one gold on some way match with aft visual solution .....

She sure was an elegant little thing.

The men on her fantail bring her into scale.  She was only 963 tons at 212 ft long...compared to the Glory of the Seas which bolstered 2103 tons at 240 ft long.  It is amazing the broad size difference between vessels that were clippers.

Hello David

Somewhere in my log I posted  photo of brush I use ( less than 0,5 mm on top). For this kind of work, this brush is unusable ( too thick) and I used very sharped toothpick, with only little drop of color on same top ( the smallest you can pick up), making only dots, and lines from sequence of dots. In that scale of work, acrylic paint dry very fast ( and make larger drops on top of toothpick) and you have to continuously take care about viscosity and density of paint, particular if  you use little yellow add to gold acrylic as I did

Believe me, if you have patience and skill to make masterpieces from card ( USS Maine, Monitor Lehigh etc) on the way you did, you have all you need for something like I try to do. You have patience, skill, and good magnifier I suppose, and that is all you need

Oh, sweet taste of re-do

Technics and method are ok, but drawing is wrong.

In patience. Just inpatient. Once again. I draw main lines with graphite pen, and jumped over next step - to bold them before starting with clay, so, without continuous keeping of one eye to photo, I just missed right shape and look I want. Working with this little pieces of clay just occupied my attention, and I just follow wrong lines. See what I have done during making photos

With toothpick apply thin line of thinned wood glue, pick pieces of clay with same toothpick and just put it on the glued line, and after a while just fix relief with little drops of acrylic. I used gold in intend to be easier to see relief when paint surface black

Acrylic applied in dots hardened and help to fill spaces between pieces of clay, and to make all relief more consistent, and also every next layers rise up relief a bit

Using tiny pieces of clay to make your bow decorations is a pretty clever method.

They look very good !!!
