Nenad,

your dead eyes look great.

However, if you decide that you don't feel like making all of them and/or the 300- 400 blocks I know a source in europe.

I've been working with Radek Beseda on developing sails for the Cutty (awesome sails. I just received the final set and will post photos this week).

Anyway, Radek offers C&C blocks. Beautiful work and he really cares about providing good parts.  You can tell him that I sent you.

Than you Marc, I ll keep it on mind. For now, I found some solution in laser cutting next week

Tonight I ll start second part of my Shumadia tour vacation, going in middle-south Serbia, to town Krusevac, capital City of Serbia in XIV century, raised by Prince Lazar, famoys ruller who lost his life in Kosovo Battle 1389, where also died Turkish Sultan Murat the 1st. My grand father was born in Krusevac, where from during first world war at age of 16. he was taken from France army to finish school in Paris, where he graduated medicine in Sorbon university. After that, tomorrow, kids and I will go to Trstenik, where my grand mother was born, to visit old monastery Ljubostinja where my grand parents were married. This monastery was raised by Lazar`s wife Milica after his death 1389,  at same start of XV century. After Kosovo battle, Milica continues to rule country , and gives her daughter Olivera to Murat`s succesor Bajazit to be his wife. Milica and Olivera were  the most powerfull womans in XV century in this part of world

Then maybe spent some time on Cuty pool, visit famous Vrnjacka banja ( spa center with natural hot and cold mineral water), and maybe short trip to visit Maglic fortres, raised in early XIII century during Mongolian wars in XIII century.

post-4738-0-50676000-1438943754_thumb.jpg

After that, in return, I intend to take kids to visit Manasia monastery again, and Smederevo fortres on Danube

Beautiful and peaceful looking countryside, Nenad.  And it has a history which makes it meaningful also.  I hope you and kids have a great trip.

Pulling them from wood and putting them in boxes, i was amazed and little scary how small them are

Basic idea is to divide four sizes  presented on C-plans to two enlarged sizes ( 6 1/2" and 7" as one group pointed to 3 mm dead-eye, 9" and 10" as another, pointed to 4 mm dead eye)

Now I can continue finishing fore deck and moving to aft deck

Trip through Shumadia this weekend was great, and some photos will be presented later ( my HTC phone is on service, and ZTE replacement I have got from provider during service can not connect to PC as external disk and I can not transfer photos from SD card right now)

Back to workshop again to finish fore deck structures

Here we go

And result ( Cu foil and 0,5 mm brass wire)

To paint/corect colors, and that is it. In this scale I just can not do this better. I am not Nils ( Mirabell61 ). Маybe I`ll be when I grow up  :)  ;)  :P

Left to make "brass cappea" for "carric bits , as Mr. Campbell said, some minor color corections, and fore deck will be done

"Brass cappea" on place, above windlass structure ( windlass pump) painted, color corrections done, and fore deck finished.

For now. I hope to remember to check all deck colors before rigging

post-4738-0-61489200-1439575432_thumb.jpg

Time to move to aft deck, but first I have to play/analyze with Corel/AI all points and to prepare working drawings

Just thinking... all deck houses are similar and have same/similar ornaments. Maybe it is good idea to make ali of them together, to be sure to get the same shade of color . Considering I do my paint jobs mixing acrylic, I am not sure I can hit same color and shade couple of months later

Adobe ilustrator helps a lot to get precise measurement. I opened my pdf rescaled sheet No 1, scaled it to 100%, foto-crop detail, import in AI and simply use measure tool

Here are exact measures and distances between dead eyes etc on aft deck .This picture is my working paper, not in scale, but to see dimensions clear

Thank you Mark.

Now, I find right position od aft deck dead eyes, still playing with AI drawing working sheet for aft cabin, and thinking about mass production method for all dead eyes fitting and mounting.

After 4 months without serious rain and outsiide max day temperature more than 36°C two days of rain and 24°C are very very nice change.

No visible progress this days filled with some social life at the evening which is my build time. And with nice supprise when refrigerator suddenly R.I.P. after 25 years

Working sheet in preparing process for aft deck, made in AI with several layers

post-4738-0-59640600-1439900021_thumb.jpg

As you can see, front entrance is as in actual stage of Her, and rear entrance is ... my vision, because I can not find clear photos of rear entrance to see distance and scale

And here is worksheet for side view

post-4738-0-31858300-1439912993_thumb.jpg

Height of entrances is my assumption, toward photos

post-4738-0-90953700-1439916694_thumb.jpg

And at this point I need a little help. Please, tell me what do you think, did I hit right dimensions, location, width and height and scale for both entrances? Please make your suggestions where I missed, and on which points I have to correct drawings !

Just a notice - at C-plans, side view of aft deck house is out of scale comparing to floor view ( or vice versa ?) so I had to correct this in my sheets

Hi Nenad,

Now that I’m committed to building the Cutty Sark I thought I’d stop in and say hi  :)

Actually, I’ve been following your build for some time and must say you have my compliments on the amazing level of research and work you’ve done on the ship.

Your build log reads like a wonderful story, I appreciate your candor, all the in-depth research you’ve done as well as sharing the results in great detail….so many fine pictures and narratives (many I’ve archived for future reference) :)

Thanks much

Nice job Nenad! That dead-eye looks dead on!   :dancetl6:

Thank you George for a nice words. From distance dead eyes look just ( ok, near) as I want them - brown with white shackle around. Of course, macro shots are our enemy, and expose all little or big mess around

Welcome Boyd, as to my build log also to CS fleet here on MSW. I started with my build ... just to say ... tentative and superficial. As time goes by, my appetite and interest grows, and without quality resources, having only very bad kit with wrong details, I have just be forced to research. Then my curiosity also grows, particularly when I found Mr.Campbell`s plans. And somewhere in those circles I found my building point. Side by this, I like to write ( even my English language limitation) and just to be more interesting for me, I spice my log with accidental thoughts and notes from real life. I am glad that someone else like this story, even my log grows above any idea to more than 100 pages, and I am not still on the half of way ?!?!?!?

The "messiness" as you say looks like it belongs there, Nenad.   Great looking deadeyes... start production!!!!

I have no idea about the dimensions if they are correct or not. Sorry.

Not agree Mark. Messiness ( drops of paint, wood dust, glue traces etc etc, just  brilliant exposed in macro shots ) are not the same thing as weathering.

Cleaning and repainting have to be done when I first make shackle, mount it to dead eyes, and then mount army of finished dead eyes on place

I see what you're saying about the messiness now.  I was seeing "wear and tear"...  I do love what you're doing and it is inspiring.

I agree with you about the "Macro shots" to a point Nenad. But they have both, pros and cons. The pros are they show you every flaw, and the cons is that they show everyone else too. :P   They also often show in detail, your great building techniques.

Cheers

To everybody

I shall try to be more precise and specific about my question from post # 2436

I know nobody has right and precise dimensions except if he/she went on aft deck in Greenwich with ruler on his hand, which is ... dream.

Comparing to C-plans, I think that position of fore entrance is ok ( center of front panel) , but his height, tallness and depth ---???. Back entrance is quite new and do not exist in C-plans, and his position is moved to right against axe of fore deck house, but - how much ? And what is width of entrance ? Because luck of exact data, I am forced to set them visually and artistic, only by my sense of this things

My question is - can anybody be kind to carefully look at pictures and my drawings - to proportions of new entrances and their position in my drawing toward position in photos, and to visually compare their  position and proportions at attached pictures in this post, and to tell your opinion  - are entrances to big/small/wide/narrow/tall or if them have to me moved left/right/inside/outside of deck house ? Just visually compare and by your own sense

Thanks for your effort. Any thought will be valuable

Nenad

PS

You can see my eyes slowly turn blue and red. Spice thing
