May want to do a test to compare a spray can to using a brush on the hull. The brush strokes on a wooden sailing ship would look more natural than the static look of spray paint, in my opinion.

Hi Sjors,

Just found your build log and picked up a chair to follow your progression.

I can not wait for the result of the paint job with a spray can.

Regards Peter

You are welcome Peter.

I will see how it goes with that spray can.

I understand your feelings Glenn.

That’s why I always use a brush but my wife was saying....try a can.

And who am i to go against the Admirals order? 😛

Because I don't like the waterline I chance it a little.

I keep it this way otherwise I will damage more then I want.

Next time I will get a real waterline tool.

Or I make a BIG mistake or I don't see it.

When you take a look at the picture of the Manuel you will see that the Stern Counter Timber are following a curve of the stern.

When I take my model and put the stern counter at the same way as te Manuel it is totally different.

That's the next picture.

At the Manuel it is saying that it has to flush with the stern underside curve.

But I don't have that curve.

So.......help or something?

I don't have a perfect solution (and would recommend waiting for feedback from others), but that piece (I believe) is oversized to accommodate building differences. Therefore I don't think you want to line up the top part at the stern, I would align the bottom end (not the higher end towards the back) to see how it looks first.

Ok, it looks like you haven't curved the stern counter No. 38, and then clamped/pinned it to the curve on the underside of there stern frames No.30, No.31

These images are from the kit manual and plans:

All I can suggest you do is to now ignore that lack of curve and make too replacement parts for the Stern Counters, and make them match the shape of the stern on your own model.

EDIT: Looking at position of wales at your stern, there wouldn't be space to add those Stern Counter timbers, so I would just ignore them.

I will see what to do.

Maybe it Is good for future Flirt builders to take attention to that.

In my opinion i have follow the curve with the planking or that building ghost is still in the house!

Thanks Jim.

Tomorrow another day with new changes.

This is what I did. My wales took up most of the space and the boom crutch parts 128 tied into the wales so I left it at that.

I just build for fun and I'm not worried about getting things perfect, so obviously keep that in mind with anything I say or do. 😃

Sjors,

I also found the stern counter timbers tricky, although I did manage to impart a curve to the stern counter by clamping it whilst it was drying:

Here's a link to my Speedy log where I fitted the stern counter timbers.

I agree with dkuehn - if you can get the boom crutch to tie in neatly with the wales it will look fine. However if you can fit the stern counter timber as intended it will be even better.

I don't like the paint job at the bow so a little bit of sanding and painted again.

In my opinion it looks much better now.

Also placed the anchor hawse bolsters and the upper rail.

Thanks for the likes.

Always a pleasure that you see that someone is watching.....

Done a little bit more.

Place the rudder and hinges, catheads, stern section  and bow section.

All that is seen by the pictures.

Now we go to the interior .
